Dawn, congratulations on winning that fight!
I was in a similar situation with a ‘19 RAM 1500 that we leased to tow an 27’ Airstream Travel trailer. Took me 7 months and finally got FCA to offer “dealer assistance” to buy the truck back. Dealer said it wasn’t enough compensation to make...
That’s great news about your truck! Saturday is just around the corner  We expect a full photo gallery over on the HD Forum!
I’m still waiting to hear from my salesperson on the status of a ‘19 Ram 2500 at another dealer in Milwaukee so fingers crossed.
I wonder if anything has changed on the 2019 HD 2500's because they state on the website's "Safety & Security" tab that Adaptive Cruise works "even with a trailer attached". It also has the same wording under Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking...
Derwoodjones, I also had success with the 7 pin connector disabling the sensor. Perhaps it’s a newer firmware version? I don’t have a 4 pin trailer to test with.
Gondul, I am envious of your good fortune to make a deal to trade up to a 2500. Since we leased we’re at the mercy of Ram Corporate / the dealer.
Our salesperson continues to be an advocate to get it resolved (buy back?) for two reasons. #1. He used their Ram Config Tools to locate our...
Zeronet, you are correct - it’s 4100# (I knew that but typed 4000 by mistake). No air suspension, just coils. Air would have decreased the payload even more.
That 1000# tongue weight is not fully loaded but does include full propane tanks (2x30 lbs.). However, since it’s a front bed model I...
We picked up our new Airstream 27’ Globetrotter using a Blue Ox SwayPro WD hitch. It towed fine but payload is an issue. Took it to the CAT scales and we’re 220# over the rear axle max of 4000# 4100#. Airstreams typically run 12-13% tongue wt. We’ve got a second AC and two solar panels and...
Johnvan, thanks for posting your experience at the scale! We’re picking up our new Airstream 27’ Globetrotter on Friday and will head to the scale on Saturday. I too am concerned about the payload and rear axle weight. If you’re interested I found a worksheet to help with the weighing process...
Agree with others, WDH set up is the key to safe, enjoyable towing experience. You may want to read up on Can Am's site - they're towing experts with a dedicated webpage to sharing tips: https://www.canamrv.ca/towing-expertise/
Andy has set up cars, SUV's and trucks that had problems towing...
Jackham, it’s a 27’ Globetrotter - the factory spec is 871# but with the 2nd AC, solar and gear I expect it to be around 1000#. I have a Sherline tongue scale so will check it before we head to the CAT scales. Airstreams tend to run between 12-13% on the tongue. Max trailer capacity is 7600#...
Stevensx21, congratulations on the new Ram and trailer setup - looks awesome! I was looking to see the specs on your Jayco 32KBS but their brochure online said "TBD" for Tongue Wt & Max Wt. Can you post the numbers along with your Ram's door sticker payload capacity? I'm curious how yours...
Understood - my assumption was you’d be pulling with the Ram. If you want the best towing capacity consider the 3.92 axle ratio which ups the limit to at least 11K lbs (more depending on options). Also, towing mirrors and 33 gallon fuel tank would round out the package. Or, if you can see...
Really interested in how you like the Falken tires for towing. I’ve got a Laramie Sport with the Off Road package - comes with the Ram spec’d version of the AT3W’s. We’ve got a 27’ Airstream Globetrotter on order due next month.
I noticed the Ram OEM versions do not carry the snowflake...
Thanks for mentioning you have surge brakes - that makes a difference when shopping for a weight distribution hitch + sway control. Check out this post on eTrailer - someone else with a boat had the same question: https://www.etrailer.com/question-119504.html
Hope that helps!
Hensley and ProPride utilize the same design. People who have them swear they never experience sway again even in crosswinds. Not cheap but the peace of mind and safety is worth something.
There are some downsides so make sure you research it first. Backing up may require disengaging the WD...
I feel your pain! We were in the same situation with a 2016 VW Touareg TDI and an 23’ Airstream travel trailer with 700# tongue weight. It pulled like a dream using Blue OX Sway Pro 1000# bars and got 16 MPG loaded and 26 without the trailer.
In December we decided to trade up to a 27’...
Your truck and trailer look great together - thanks for sharing the photos! I’m envious that you’re out camping already. We *just* got rid of the last snow.
Sorry to hear about your undesirable towing experience. There’s a great description of how to set up a weight distribution hitch + air...
Nice looking combo and perfect framing of the photo! What model / size is your Airstream? I’m curious what your door sticker payload is too. We’re heading to Jackson Center, OH to see our new 27’ Globetrotter on the production line next week. I’m concerned since our ‘19 Ram 1500’s payload is...
Danielle, I went with the factory stainless step installed by the dealer post-sale - also have the Sport appearance package. Since the steps are on the same level as the wheels, they don’t stand out. See what you think... By the way, the truck came with the factory wheel liners; worth adding!
