In reading thru this thread the only reason I can see that the truck needs to be not running is for safety. RAM would end up in a world of law suites if the truck did something while you were standing behind the trailer checking lights and the truck decided to back up over you. OUCH !!!

I've never used mine but watch video and see if anything shows up that might help. It does bright light could cause non-registration. Since you are at a boat ramp the water reflection might cause disruption.
