More issues popped up with the Ram today while I’m waiting on the Silverado. Buttons on steering wheel did not work. Apple car play did not work. I couldn’t even adjust radio volume with the knob. Touchscreen froze. When it wasn’t frozen I could only access climate features. Everything and I...
Paperwork is done. I am now the owner of a 2019 Silverado LTZ. Crew cab, long bed, Z71, loaded. Lifetime powertrain included (in writing). Dealer will be adding window tint, tires, and level kit. While all of that is getting done they are letting me keep the Ram until it’s ready.
Trade value...
I am looking at a couple trade options later today. A 19 Silverado LTZ and a 21 Titan Platinum Reserve. Both trucks come with lifetime powertrain. We’ll see what happens.
Update- I got the truck back yesterday. Check engine light came on right after I drove it off the lot. So I’m thinking well here we go again. Turned around and went back to the dealer. Turns out they forgot to plug in the knock sensors on the driver side. Simple fix but definitely made me...
I’ll probably end up taking a loss regardless after the lift, tires, exhaust, and a few other things.
I got a good deal on it in December 2020. Always paid it down as much as I could. I don’t owe very much on it at all now. Just worried the trade in value will tank after the engine replacement...
That’s pretty much where I’m at. What will break next?
Of course trading is a gamble too. I’ve decided not to make a decision one way or the other until I get the truck back. Although I have found 2 other dealers in the area offering lifetime powertrain new and used, any make or model. It’s...
Update- I was told dealer is planning to pull the engine this week. They are still dealing with the claim process with Ram corporate (pictures, reports, etc). Service advisor said they are hoping to have the new engine by the end of next week or the week after. It will be 1 month this week so I...
Update- Dealer confirmed truck will need a new engine. There’s metal shavings/pieces throughout from camshaft and lifter failure. The warranty will be honored and claim process has started. Service advisor verbally confirmed I will have a lifetime powertrain warranty since it’s a full...
Update- dealer gave me a 2018 Bighorn for a loaner vehicle. Much better than the Jeep I had last time. Still no ETA of engine tear down. Best guess is sometime next week.
Is it normal to happen after only 31k miles? Truck did feel underpowered as I limped it home. I do know for certain they have not ran any scan tools or diagnostics yet. Makes me nervous that even if it’s fixed or engine replaced that it will happen again.
If factory power train warranty is not honored, I will be reaching out. Truck has had issues a handful of times now. I get things can happen but at this point it’s one too many.
Interestingly enough service advisor mentioned camshaft and lifters on the phone today. Engine has not been torn down yet so not confirmed. I’m guessing they have seen it happen before.
Update: Called dealer handling the service. Would not tear down the engine until all service records were sent from original dealer. I can understand that but they told me they would get the records? Haven’t heard from dealer until today. Anyway I get all the records and send them over...
I try to never use MDS. I always adjust the gear limiter to 8 so it’s off. Hoping to get a call from the dealer tomorrow with good news but not holding my breath.
It started completely out of nowhere. Driving home from work about 13 miles into my 17 mile drive. 2 lane merge into 1 lane on highway, traffic backed up so barely moving. Heard the knock and thought thank god it’s not me. Few minutes later I realized it was in fact me when I accelerated.
I did not. Really wish I had thought of this before dropping it off at the dealer. I had some kid 10+ years ago forget to screw the cap on after an oil change. Got a call a few hours later when they couldn’t figure out why they had an extra cap laying around the shop.
I’m thinking I’ll have to hire an attorney if Firestone is at fault. I doubt they’ll just agree to cover the cost. Really don’t want it to come to that but my gloves are on ready to fight.
