A good dealer makes all the difference in the world. I'm quick to defend dealers when people marginalize them into one category of "bad" people. Once you've had a good dealer, you have a different view than those who have never had a good dealer experience. My dealer will bend-over backwards...
Sorry to hear the news @bkawasakiyee
It doesn't appear that this is a very widespread problem. Could the recall be for a small number of EcoDiesels???? I suppose more information will be coming out soon. I know it's hard to stay positive during this time, but let's hope the repair happens...
There's no confusion. Ram quickly changed the specs not long after the truck was released with the updated MS-12991. Several people have pulled UOA samples and have found that the MS-12991 is doing the job (protecting the engine). There's nothing to be concerned about. There are guys now...
I must confess that I'm a little surprised. 5 months ago, my dealer could tell right away that the new oil was Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W-40 and/or Mopar 68231020AA 5W-40. FCA said the new oil must meet MS-12991 and have the API SN Certification/Standard/Approval.
This isn't true. Not only have dealers been notified, but all they need to do is look at their own online system. My service department knew about the change and the parts guy can see it on his computer. Some dealers are just lazy and incompetent.
The pan for the 3rd gen engine had to be more shallow to allow for the solid front axle to articulate in the Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator EcoDiesels. Since cooling issues were resolved with the 5th gen grille and intercooler placement, there wasn't a need to have such a large oil capacity...
As mentioned above, you are talking about the 2014 - 2019 2nd gen engine that comes in the 4th gen truck. We are talking about the 2020 5th gen truck with the 3rd gen EcoDiesel engine.
I've been using the on-shelf DEF for several years that I purchase from Wal-Mart which moves DEF quickly...
You can go to many auto part stores and find the capacity and oil recommendation. Even Amsoil lists all the correct specs online. These independent companies get their information straight from FCA!
-10c = 14*F
-25c = -13*F
Wow, that's pretty cold for not needing a cover. I figured the engine could use some help from the cover with temperatures under 20*F (-6c). I probably should look in the owner's manual to see if it gives any recommendations.
I ordered my truck with the cold weather package. I'm in northern New Mexico where the temps don't get cold often, but I've seen -17*F with daytime temperatures no warmer than 27*F. What ambient temperature would you recommend putting on the cover?
I have two free dealer oil changes, so I'll use those first. I'm not logging very many miles on my 2020 EcoDiesel, so I imagine my interval will be every 6 months or 4,000 miles, whichever comes first. I will, however, make sure I take an oil sample each time. After that, I'll be switching to...
I finally took delivery of my 2020 EcoDiesel yesterday. Hopefully I don't have the same problems that some of you are having, but I'll keep a close eye out for any leaks.
I just took delivery of my 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel yesterday. Everything seems to work except for the interior lighting when the door is opened. I did a quick google and this thread came up. I tried pressing the button that you suggested and it worked! So, I had to register on this site...
