I'd be interested in that also. I would think that the fact that the running boards are exposed to the elements so much that neither of those would be very long lasting.
Try using Armorall (or an equivalent) on the rubber seal. I have a Challenger with a sunroof that starts squeaking about every three months due to the rubber gasket drying out.
My guess is the constant airflow from the windshield vents is not a design flaw. It is designed that way to help prevent the opposite problem - condensation on the inside of the window when humid air might be introduced into the car (open window, door, etc.).
This is what we got - we don't have a car seat, but it does split 60/40/center, so that might do the trick for you.
