I think we're discussing two different things. Max tow is not fabricated anymore than GCWR, it's simply a calculated result using GCWR and curb weight of the lightest possible trim/truck.
If you mean that the truck used in the max tow calculation for getting the curb weight, is not likely to...
Somebody a while ago posted the max tow for the SO and HO. I don't remember who, but it was just a marketing pic and not the actual tow charts. That's how we know the SO max tow went down vs the hemi.
I will try and find it back later on if somebody else doesn't post it first.
I agree that the...
GCWR is set using the J2807, which I know you know. The question is, why is the GCWR not higher for the HO? We know the J2807 has tests for acceleration and for not overheating while pulling up the davis dam etc. I think you're saying the GCWR is limited not by those tests but by...
As a further point re: max tow, the max tow went down using the SO vs the hemi. Yet it has more power and its a lighter engine. So either the tradesman grew fat over 2025, something changed in the J2807, or the little whizzers aren't as strong as the paper suggests, or there are cooling issues...
My criticism and objection of the hurricane isn't based on feelings, so that's not going to change after driving one. I have no doubt it feels faster and really smooth. I'd probably enjoy this engine in an updated challenger with a stick shift though even there I'd buy the 6.4 scat pack first if...
I don't agree. Yes the truck is a little heavier, but that would be more of an issue for payload and not max tow/GCWR.
The HO is significantly more powerful than the SO and the hemi. I don't have all the numbers off the top of my head but at most there is like 800 pounds difference between a...
Yet we have the hemi which can't.
Yes
No, but you're complaining about our lack of interest and concerns with the hurricane
Its you
You call it whining because you're sensitive to criticism. See how that works? We're just here discussing why the hurricane is a poor choice for trucks and you...
You're missing the point which was that manufacturers don't overbuild an engine and then purposely reduce the output power. This field is very competitive and if there was room on the table for the 3.0 to put out more power with stock components, why wouldn't they? The reduced HO tow rating...
LIke I said, the 5.7 hemi does not react well to boost, just one example. The rings aren't gapped enough, and the pistons are like glass once the boost comes in.
Why would they build an engine that can reliably handle 650+ hp but not put it out there?
Max tow on the HO is also down vs the SO...
I don't find it that hard to believe. The 5.7 hemi will run forever unless you try and boost it past like 5 to 8 psi.
Engines are built to a tolerance and 520 hp is already a lot of power per cylinder. I've heard reports about the hurricane putting out huge power numbers but I'm willing to bet...
It's NOT a trx replacement. NOT. Louder? NOT.
Its a new model slotting between the rebel and the upcoming trx which has not yet been released.
Just like the new warlock is NOT a replacement for the rebel. It's joins the offroad trim variants on the bottom end.
So the offroad scale goes...
FTFY. Ain't nothing about that truck is "budget".
(no trx's were harmed with the making of this post. Meaning of 'crown jewels' is an exercise left to the reader. This is a family friendly site.)
Nothing in these trucks gets cheaper to build OR maintain, that is the simple truth. They all get more complicated, more regulated, and less reliable.
Welcome to the future, I'll hang onto my v8.
That's pretty naive. Manufacturers aren't swallowing the cost of making an engine, they pass it directly onto the dude buying it. Not only do they pass the cost on, they charge extra for it and make even more money. Emissions and MPG rules aside, if it weren't for all that nonsense they would...
Cheaper to build, who cares. I'm sure it's in between the 3.6 pentastar and the 5.7 hemi, so ... negligible.
Cheaper to maintain, as in me the end user paying less money keeping it on the road? Not a chance.
It's about emissions, not mpg. The hemi was designed 20 years ago and it simply cannot meet the new emissions standards.
In day to day driving, MPG will probably be very slightly better with the turbos, I'm going to guess 1 to 2 highway, if you can drive conservatively. If you tow or like to...
It's really not that hard to break into 20 mpg with all highway. I'm sitting at 17 to 18 for the entire winter, this is mixed driving and winter gas and lots of windy days and remote starts.
My point in this wasn't to prove that the hemi is some fuel efficient sipper, just that your claim/usage...
Max tow has actually gone down vs the tried and true hemi, but you'll still be able to tow > 8000 pounds which is pretty much maxed out for almost every half ton pulling an RV.
