Some might not be excited by the small displacement, but you can't argue with the numbers!
You have to remember that Dodge and Ram have been under European ownership since 2014. (FCA). Everyone was terrified that it would be the end of iconic American performance but some of the best muscle cars jeeps and trucks were developed since that merger. The world is a changing place, and...
I guess it remains to be seen, I like my Hemi but this new motor family seems very promising. I believe the bmw B58 and S58 motors have a similar configuration and seem to be great motors so far, even when tuned.
When is the last time you did a full rebuild of an engine block in a late model truck? With hemi's and LS motors it is very rare, usually it is far less expensive to get another complete motor from the junk yard, especially if you are talking a full re-bore with new pistons etc. This new motor...
The HO tow rating is probably lower than the standard because it is only available on the Grand Wagoneer. The Grand is likely heavier and tuned for comfortable ride rather than max towing. Both of the new hurricane options are 100LBS or more lighter than a comparable Hemi.
Same octane recommendation as the equivalent hemi and close to 10% better economy with no e-torque. Also lighter weight and will have a way wider torque curve which means more power where you use it, especially with the shorter standard axle ratio. We don't know the real world mileage of this...
510 hp and 6500 lbs = lots of energy consumption... no surprise there. Try getting 40 more hp out of a 6.4 hemi while also increasing the mpg by 10%. I love the 6.4 hemi, but this new motor makes more power and creates less emissions which is essential to it being legal to drive thanks to the...
Guess we will see what it does in the real world, could be better depending on driving style as the broad torque curve allows drivers to stay away from the high RPM's. 30 extra HP and 60 extra ft lbs in a package that is 100 lbs or so lighter than the 5.7 is enough for me to be interested.
It is crazy how many people are assuming that this engine will have the same weak points as a completely unrelated motor! Its like assuming Hemi V8's are junk because audi had issues with their 4.2.... I love my Hemi, but we should be celebrating that we have a 400+ HP new gas motor when many...
Does the transmission have a sport mode? The Ram 1500 8 speed is tuned to be very smooth, but doesnt shift nearly as quickly as the durango R/T or the SRT models with similar trans.
I can turn traction and stability control off, just in 4x4 lock or 4x4 auto modes. It will turn back on above a certain speed but is totally off. Just hold the switch down for 5-10 seconds in 4x4 lock or 4x4 auto...big slides on snow with no traction control kicking on.
I can't comment on towing, but i drive a standard spring sport and occasionally drive my fathers air suspension limited. The air suspension certainly has a few benifits.
1. ride quality is softer, but also more stable on the highway with air suspension.
2. adjustable ride height is nice, these...
