I had the 5.2 in my '97. That truck would do a great burnout, but that was about it as far as the fun-o-meter on the street was concerned. Don;t forget the Rams from that era weighed less than similar trucks from the DT generation... There is a lot more crap - accessories, electronics, etc- on...
Yeah, the 5.7 has always been an underachiever in the Ram. It's fine in a 1500 lb lighter car, but... An SRT bloodline 6.4 in these trucks is really what is needed. Even then it wouldn't feel like a racercar, but at least it wouldn't feel deficient.
So no sliding window in the rear of the cab? A/c on, cap window open, maybe a little foam tape to seal between the openings, should be comfy enough for pups
