There are several discussions on this, but the cliffs notes version is ORG= 1” lift so Aero= non ORG normal, Normal= non ORG OR1 and OR= non ORG OR2. Trucks still max out at the same height. I believe it is due to limitation of travel for the air bags.
I heard it once or twice right after, but it wasn’t nearly as pronounced as before... been driving the truck for several days now and haven’t heard it, and I’ve been trying to make it clunk. It is leaps and bounds better, not able to duplicate now. I’m real curious as to whether it will worsen...
I have heard this has been an issue in the past generation trucks. The whole steering clunk seems to be nothing new with the Rams the more I look into it.
I urge anyone who has the issue and can replicate to please take your truck in to the dealer. The more of us that bring up the issue the more likely they are to jump on it. Drove mine earlier and no clunking. If it gets worse again, leads me to believe a redesign of the rack and pinion assembly...
Yes, exactly the same here. I feel like I may have heard it again a time or two even after having the rack and pinion replaced. However, it is tenfold better than it was, so I'm wondering how that could be... seems like it would have either fixed it 100% or not. Wondering if it's just some kind...
They don’t lock or have a release lever. That is by design so that you can manipulate them with one hand easily. The lever you’re referring to is for the “reclining” rear seats.
I did not ask that question, but they did say they were going to move the issue up the chain to FCA. There was another 5th Gen truck in for service the day after mine came in for the exact same thing. Service advisor indicated he thought it was something FCA would be looking into in short order...
UPDATE: Picked up from the dealer. Appears the clunking issue is fixed. I confirmed with the service advisor the only components replaced were the rack and pinion assembly, and everything else was inspected and torqued to factory spec. I have not yet heard the popping which was happening quite...
One thing I will do regardless of whether the “fix” actually works is to confirm again what exactly was done. Things have moved pretty fast, and my typical service advisor is out until next week. Everything was completed with a realignment late today, so pickup is first thing tomorrow AM. Will...
You might want to try another dealer. Mine has been very willing to work with me to figure out what’s going on. The shop foreman even took a ride with me when I brought it in to have it looked at. Dropped the truck off this AM. What they are replacing is the entire steering rack and pinion...
My appointment to replace the steering rack is tomorrow AM. I am hoping to have the truck back (clunk free) by the end of the day. I will report just as soon as I have it back if that fixed it.
