Just a word of caution--I've seen reports of the Smitty wireless functionality misbehaving, like picking up stray signals and deciding to spool in or out unexpectedly. From what I can find online, this was supposedly "fixed", but I don't know if the fix was something inherent to the wireless...
I ordered these guys: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075SHTY3H--2 pairs of 6', and a single 2'. The factory lugs are stamped with "25 mm2", which puts them slightly smaller than 3-gauge, so picked 2-gauge, and decided to replace all the original cables (not necessary, but it'll bother me if...
I'm thinking about this, too. I'm wondering if you could just completely cut out a section in the center where it interferes with the fairlead/mount, and leave the outer sections (with sensor mounts) in place to fill the gap?
Alternatively, I wonder how feasible it would be to take a picture...
Great timing! I was just in the process of putting together an Amazon order for the parts to build another remote-mounted control box like I did in my Jeep. Since there's plenty of room under the hood of the Ram, just changing the wires and moving the stock control box like you're doing is SO...
Just got shipping notification--woohoo! Now I need to figure out how to make installing a winch sound like a legitimate excuse to skip family pictures next weekend...
Not that it's happening in 2020, but I'll probably feel a bit of regret for not waiting for the TRX. On the other hand, I'm guessing the TRX will be a $100k truck, so it'll sting a little less.
With all your experience, perhaps you could explain how monkeying with the throttle input can disable throttle lag that's BUILT INTO THE ECU? So far all I've heard from manufacturers or owners is "It just does." If I could find a reasonable explanation of how that happens, I might try one out...
Since you have to "un-splice' the Smittybilt anyway, I got the Factor 55 Splicer--much cheaper than their other options. I've got their Flatlink on my Jeep, and it's great, but I don't need to hide it behind the license plate on the Ram.
Their video of throttle-body demo setup clearly shows it improves response time, but I don't see how that's possible. They even say on their website that the delay is caused by traction control, etc., and there's no way changing the pedal input can get around that.
That's really interesting. I would have thought that the pedal is just an input, and any delay would have be built into the ECU. That's clearly not the case.
This is my thinking as well. My "Ankle Commander" works just fine, is infinitely adjustable on the fly through a hands-free interface, and didn't cost a thing.
I went with the 12k too, but the 10k would probably have been fine. They have the same motor, but different gearing, so the 10k has faster line speed, but the 12k pulls harder.
