Since I had asked the question about rooftop tents and I've been camping this weekend, I figured I could update with some pics of my setup and you may see why I'm hesitant to go to a rooftop tent (but part of me really wants to)
Both of mine were done by the dealer. They built both trucks, and on the first one I had the issue of hunting for gears and I used the GPS on my phone and saw the speedometer was off. So I brought it back, they did it on the spot and it worked perfect after that. On this latest truck I picked...
Looks great! That's my next tire size for sure. Don't want to go with 37's but I want bigger than 35's. That and the Yokohama's in the 315/60's are the sizes I'd consider. Thanks for the pics, it's hard to find a 5th gen on 325/60s.
Also I agree with 5thgen.ram above, I always look at the revs...
Last year was my first year with the Decked drawers and, well, I missed the only deer I took a shot on, a nice 8 or 9 point. But usually I quarter or debone them right where they lay and pack out. So by the time I get to my truck they go straight to the ice chest. But I have killed a couple that...
So last year I did it with a Pakmule hitch carrier. Not bad, but with the Decked drawers it can limit how close I can get to the drawers. So that's one reason I went to the in-bed rack.
It's a Yakima Outpost HD. I don't put a rooftop tent on it, I have a Kodiak Canvas ground tent. But I have a basket, have some traction boards that I'll mount on it and I take a mountain bike hunting. I have Decked drawers so the rack almost acts like a cage and gives me some more tie off points...
Threw the rack back in the bed as we are approaching hunting/camping season down here. Also threw on a Yakima Frontloader bike rack that I picked up last weekend. Works great, but I need to measure so I know the height.
35x12.50s and 3.21s and I have zero issues. Can do 77-78mph in 8th at about 1700 rpm. This is my 2nd 5th gen with a 6" lift and 35s, and on the first one I didn't recalibrate the speedo right away and it hunted for gears (of course). Speedo cal with the actual measured height, not listed height...
Aint nothing wrong with a "peasant" model. Shoot next time I'm going even more peasant. Just want to root, not have my *** massaged and air on my balls.
Okay gotcha that makes sense, on the '24s. Kinda like getting less cereal in the box for the same price. Prices don't go down, you just get less for your money. Sad times.
Nice truck! I like those steps a lot. Don't take this the wrong way, no criticism, but it almost looks like they need to slide forward on the truck? Is that an option or are they fixed?
Swapped the BTS OEM boards for something with a lower step. Westin Outlaw Drop Step nerf bars. 3.5" lower to the step than the factory boards (21.25" vs 17.75" off the ground). They tuck in a lot, which some people may not like but I prefer. Very happy with these.
Put on Westin Outlaw Drop Step nerf bars. I needed a lower point of entry from the OEM boards. These worked out great. The step is 3.5" lower and I think the curves complement the body lines of the truck.
I bought a Rough Country soft tri fold because I take it on and off frequently. Doesn't have rails, just sits on top of the bed and has two forward clamps. Real happy with it.
After the Extang I briefly had a Peragon, was super nice but I never could get the gaskets to not fold over and cause...
