Thanks, those are great points. I’ve had an issue with the 1500 clutch based limited slip differential, and as I was researching differentials, looks like the 2500 is fully geared diff rather than clutches. So overall I think the 2500 may just be heavier duty.
I’ve been looking at some 2500s...
I would suggest one adjustment to this. With 762 tongue weight available, 13% gives you 5861 TOTAL weight for the trailer. Figure you’ll load about 750-1000 lbs of stuff, so I’d say the GVWR should be no more than 6000 and the dry weight should be lower than 5000.
We are towing 7000 dry and...
My Big Horn 1500 has a payload of 1780. Not too many options and I’m happy with it for now. I do keep looking at 2500s though, and one thing I’ve been surprised it as how low their “on paper” payload is...
For example, VIN 3C6UR5FL9LG259728 shows a payload of 2157 lbs. I look at that and I...
Thanks Dusty, the LSD is new to me. I would have thought the factory fill would be to spec and sufficient to avoid chatter...
Regardless, after the service department put more in, I have no more chatter. Did some uphill windy mountain roads this past weekend where it was the worst and hear...
Maybe this link works...

We have a Jayco 28BHS which is about 34’ total. Pulling with a 2020 1500. Poster above said it taxes the truck and to be careful; definitely agree. I’ve gotten comfortable with the truck and trailer but still think about an upgrade to a 2500.
I definitely would not go bigger than 30ish feet and...
It’s amazing how fast the weight adds up. We didn’t think we had much in the pass through storage - camp chairs, paper goods, water hoses, leveling blocks, some toys for kids, camp gear. Ended up being 250 pounds! We trimmed that down and used organizer bins. Guess what? The organizer bins weigh...
We bought our Jayco 28BHS partly due to the spec tongue weight of 765 lbs and weight of 6700. It ended up at 7000 lbs dry, closer to 8000 lbs loaded, and the tongue weight is 1000-1100 lbs depending on loading. I’d definitely go with 12-15% of the trailer weight rather than the listed spec...
Update on this issue. Got into the dealer last week and showed them the videos I had recorded. They acknowledged it was not a normal nor healthy sound. After some road testing, they told me they couldn't replicate it...not a surprise. I asked them to road test again on some small nearby...
We are very similar to cj7. Have a 28’ Jayco, which is about 33’ total length. Dry is 7000lbs, loaded (no fluids) is about 8000lbs. “Factory” tongue was 685 lbs but reality is closer to 1100 when loaded (scaled).
TV is a 2020 1500 Longhorn. 1780lbs payload. People is about 600lbs, so we are...
Great to see @Zeronet 's numbers to do the calculation... looking at the post I didn't see an attached spreadsheet. The weights identified might be an interesting set of columns to add to the sheet I started. I found it super interesting to be able to look at dozens of trucks at one time when...
Anybody interested in putting their numbers into a spreadsheet? I was considering an F150 and came across a spreadsheet on another forum (www.f150forum.com) where many people had entered their payload, other specs, and options. It was super helpful to see how the capacities were different, and...
