If not the clock spring, and I am sure this may be different from 4th gens - but the fourth gens I believe have a TSB or recall for steering ujoint at end of steering shaft. I know two people that had them replaced.
The point is the manufacturer would not recommend it if their safety features (knock sensors) could not compensate to pull timing.
The dodge viper does not say it can use 87 octane yet the ram does. The point is different engines have different tolerances as you stated.
Furthermore the point is...
No manufacturer will state "you can 'use' 87 but will experience detonation."
They say you can use it, so to experience ping while using it there is a different issue afoot.
I do not think spending an extra 20-30 cents per gallon (say a 10% increase in cost per gallon) is acceptable as that is...
I brought mine into a dealer and complained of engine noise, dealer stated it was just fuel injectors. I have since amassed a heat shield rattle, poor (sub 13mpg) fuel mileage, and an increase in engine bay noise.
I suggest bringing it to a dealer, express all concerns, let them investigate and...
Lift the front (spacers and links) and ride around in aero.
Lowering the rear that much will make it feel like you just had a fist used on you for a prostate exam. Which is fine if thats what you are into.
Would like it if a ram engineer got on board.
My deduction is that as much as this is an old motor and design, the on board diagnostics with knock/detonation sensors would retard timing and this "pinging" would be near non existent. Its no 1971 ford LTD. Ram would state 89 or better if it was a...
I ended up with a limited because if large discounts and had everything i wanted smd then some.
West coastish has limiteds for low to mid 50s for sales.
It seems people who make these comments about air ride not being good had older vehicles with air suspension or are going off someone elses post about 'this one time at band camp' a failure happened.
My air ride has had no problems. 100k bumper to bumper makes me feel even less concerned...
If the power running boards scare you might as well buy a mistubishi mirage for 14k.
I originally wanted a bighorn with 12" screen and pano roof.... i ended up with a limited.
Do it once do it right.
