Yes, I can still fit it in my garage fairly easily. Certain parking garages, like at the airport can present some challenges as it seems like 1-2" of excess clearance based on the signs at the garage entrance. Others seem to have plenty of clearance.
On the MPG's I'm going off the computer that...
Awesome, thanks for taking additional pics. Looks good.
I may look into the black handles vs the color match. Had that on my last truck.
I have the passive entry though and I"m not sure if that makes it more complicated or more expensive.
I've had good luck with bug and tar remover. I would start with that, probably less harmful to the paint than some other options. I few companies make it, Mothers, Turtle wax, etc.
I've done it. Very easy, just use a plastic tool (trim removal tool works great) and get behind a corner and pry up tab at a time.
If you look at pictures of the back of the insert you can see where the tabs are and how they lock into the hood.
I have the black inserts and then put the red...
I may have to bust out the plastidip for a trial run for the black to see what it looks like. Probably not durable enough for this application long term. Maybe a wrap.
Wow, that sounds like a heavy application. Nothing wrong with that, but the gun sometimes puts out a lot if pressure isn't high enough or adjusted right. I can generally do my truck twice with a gallon and still have some left. Who knows, I may be applying too lightly? I try to make sure the...
Just FYI, the gallon is great for big areas under the truck, and for areas you can access with the gun. For smaller areas, like insides of door panels, rocker panels, wheel wells, etc, that you sometimes can't access with the gun I have found that the 12 oz can with the 2 foot wand extension...
There's a thought that the constant melting of the salt/brine solution causes it to seep into smaller places and also "activates" the salt so that it becomes corrosive to metal. If it stays frozen until you can get to a car wash and remove it, you can avoid it becoming corrosive. Also, not great...
I use Fluid Film. Not just underneath, but inside rockers, inside the wheel wells, inside bottom of doors, etc. The wand extension makes it easy to get into tight spots and ensure the interior gets covered as that is where a lot of rust starts.
Mine stays in the garage. Best of both worlds as it is detached and not heated so if any snow/ice/salt accumulates in the winter, it won’t melt when I pull it into the garage.
I have the same aftermarket part so following to see what the outcome is. Love the step I have, super strong, which sounds like it may be its downfall.
Looks great, thanks for posting. I want to do the same thing. Looks like a ton of prep, X2, but to avoid the overspray I guess it is necessary.
Did you coat it with the clear as well?
