    36,000 Miles and

Big Horn Pleb approves! EDIT: if you're worried about the side bolster, get in the habbit of using the grab handle to lift your butt in and out, rather than let the seat take all of your weight sliding in and out.

23 gallon tank a deal breaker?

Think of all the guys in Silverados and Sierras - their only tank option is a 24 gallon. Even the trucks that have to put premium fuel in for the 6.2 engine. But those guys are getting by with only 24 gallons. I have tank envy of the Toyota Tundra with 38 gallons but then again their unloaded...

    Retrofitting the 33 gallon tank

Can you explain? How would you attach to the frame without welding?

    Retrofitting the 33 gallon tank

Thanks all. I got verbal confirmation that the job would include updating the truck computer to reference 33 gallon tank. Pricing for labor only was quoted at $440. I’ll need to supply everything however. The SA I was speaking with said he personally hasn’t done this for another customer yet.

    Retrofitting the 33 gallon tank

I'm getting what appears to be very good pricing from my dealer for labor if I supply the tank and other equipment needed. I'm going to re-read this thread carefully to confirm that I'll be showing up with all the required parts. I have a 26 Gallon tank currently. I have no bracket for the...

    EcoDiesel vs HEMI towing MPG

In my experience with the 5.7, when towing maximum capacity with bad aerodynamics (travel trailer 7-8k weight range) the Hemi will get 9-11 MPG. TFL got 12.4mpg with the ecodiesel on their flat ground towing. From purely a dollars and cents perspective, the ecodiesel is worth it if you're...

    Diesel or Hemi ?

I was left stranded on the highway a hundred miles from home thanks to the CP4 pump in my last diesel. Thankfully the $10,000 dollar repair bill was handled under warranty. I would never consider a diesel with that pump, which limits me I think to a pre-2019 Cummins (CP3) or a New Duramax...

    Retrofitting the 33 gallon tank

Thanks for confirming! And wow. And hmmmh.... guess I order the 33 tank even though I don't have the 3rd strap bracket?

    Retrofitting the 33 gallon tank

Can you elaborate on this? Are you saying folks are retrofitting with only 2 straps and it's fine or from the factory they are abandoning the 3rd strap on new trucks?

    Retrofitting the 33 gallon tank

Prices continuing to drop for the 33 gallon tank. 68408875ad $240 on most sites, with $10 shipping (wow!) Would love to do this but I don't have the bracket for the 3rd strap.

    Switching from 3.92 to 3.21...

This has been my experience. I routinely get 22-24 mpg highway w/3.21. City is likely no difference. Depending on your highway vs city miles you're saving a couple thousand dollars every 100,000 miles. Not worth it to do the swap IMO as it's pricey from what I've heard unless you're got 2WD

First Time Towing - 3.21 Gears

Great towing report. Would love to see some pics of your setup if you have any. I have a very similar truck and also had a good experience towing a similar weigh travel trailer. Only complaint was a little porpoising over some of the bumps. For next time I may try GenY's new Glider hitch made...

    Hemi dipstick accuracy?

I find it to be accurate. I keep mine between the half full and full mark. I've owned mine since new and done 2 oil changes so far. One thing I've noticed is the Manual indicates it's a 7 qt oil change. However, I always can only drain between 6.5-6.7 quarts out. When I refill I also use that...

    26 Gallon to 33 Gallon Fuel/Gas tank

I stand corrected then. $500 is a great price - I think that's what the charge from the factory as an option.

Looking at used 2019+ Ram 1500 hemi 4x4's to occasionally tow a 6000 lb travel trailer in the mountains. Most have 3.21 axle, will that work?

That's true once you're up to highway speed. Getting up to HWY speed the 3.92 will help with an extra gear. See this thread: https://5thgenrams.com/community/threads/an-engineers-ultimate-guide-to-3-21-vs-3-92-axle-ratio.16986/

Looking at used 2019+ Ram 1500 hemi 4x4's to occasionally tow a 6000 lb travel trailer in the mountains. Most have 3.21 axle, will that work?

The 3.92 will obviously tow better. That wasn't his question - he already has the trailer @ 6K pounds and was asking opinions on how a 3.21 truck would handle it. A lot of folks (myself included) are new to transmissions with more than 6 gears on trucks. It was an eye opener to discover just how...

Looking at used 2019+ Ram 1500 hemi 4x4's to occasionally tow a 6000 lb travel trailer in the mountains. Most have 3.21 axle, will that work?

You'll be good with the 3.21 at those weights. I've towed 8k 32ft TT and it did fine. One user on this forum has towed 10k multiple times w/3.21. To help understand the power of the 8 speed, know that the 3.21 Ram final drive ratios are geared more aggressively than a Toyota Tundra 5.7 w/4.30...

    26 Gallon to 33 Gallon Fuel/Gas tank

It is very expensive even if you do it yourself. There is a thread here somewhere if you search and the parts alone were around $1200-1500 IIRC. I invested in three 5 gallon Wavian Jerry cans that are popular with Australian overlanders, which gives me 41 gallons total when I need it (plus...

Should have configured the 3.92. Can I upgrade after purchase?

Just my opinion but I would look to a heavy duty truck if towing a TT more than 8000 lbs. The 3.92 pushing the Ram north of 10K towing is for a very narrow use case (in my opinion) - such as hauling a loaded dump trailer. Travel trailers can become difficult to control due to the shape and...

    Ram 1500 vs 5.3L Sierra

I was pretty brand neutral - I favor buying what fits your needs for the best deal you can find. In 2013 that happened to be an F150. In 2019 it was the Ram 1500. I really wanted to jump into Toyota because of the reliability reputation. However, it was very hard to get a deal on the Tundras...
