I also live in Alaska and run about 360lbs of traction sand in the back. Never had an issue and mostly ran in 2wd.
I will second the advice on learning how the truck responds in/on snow and ice by finding a large empty parking lot and going for spins
Installed the J&L can over the weekend. It was super easy to do. Will be checking frequ as the can is only 3oz until I gain an understanding on how often to drain it.
Use both. The cover will help the engine warm up faster (diesels love being warm). As for the block heater, get a timer and set it so it comes on a couple of hours before you need to drive it. You can save money on electricity by doing this.
Which headers did you get? I went onto JBA’s website and they had 3 different types. Might have to just purchase them and store them until I need them.
BAKFlip MX4 installed. Noticed an increase in fuel mileage from low 17’s to low 19’s. Should have done this sooner. There is a chance of snow later next week so we will see how the cover does.
So true. Most of the folks I see in the ditch are those that transferred in the summer before from bases in the Lower 48. They just don’t understand how to drive in Alaska conditions.
I have 6-60lbs bags at my local Lowes store. With my 2500 I ran this weight and 2wd until I really needed 4wd. Never had 4wd auto that is in the 1500. It will be fun to see how the Rebel handles snow and ice.
I have had both drop in and for the last 4 Rams (1500, tow 2500‘s and a 3500) spray-in liner (Rhino and Line-X) I prefer spray-in. Non slippery and protects the bed of my truck. The one drop-in let water underneath and started rusting any scratches in the bed.
