It’s not the weight for payload, but for CAFE standards. Manufacturers are using aluminum panels to lighten their vehicles and improve mpg. A smaller tank will save quite a bit more than an aluminum hood, and is cheaper to produce.
I picked up my 22 a month ago. I had lots of issues including resetting presets. It had been reflashed for the recall before I bought it. A week later, I took it in and there was a reflash available. It has been perfect ever since.

When truck shopping, I wrote off Chevy because they don’t offer an extended range tank. In all of the new Rams here in Vegas, I could only find 2 that had extended range.
