I did the mod to add the 12" to my truck, so "my" VIN won't ever get an update, is that right? I'm assuming that there is absolutely no way to manually download these updates and just pray that my module gets it over WiFi?

Sorry, I didn't see this until now - sorry! Turns out I didn't need the resistor at all, I just had to tap the harness wire to a bolt that was nearby the BCM. Once I did that, since I didn't have the option to add a resistor, I just enabled the other settings for it and it worked as intended...
