Pour point has nothing to do with the winter rating. There is no minimum/maximum pour point limits set by the SAE and there is no pour point sequence test required by the API. Depending on the base stock and pour point depressant used by the blender it's possible for a 5W to have a lower pour...
Took my Laramie in today for the recall, ten minutes from when they checked me in until the swap was done and they brought the truck back. It had a yellow tag attached with a zip tie that I had to remove and push the mat down onto the locking pin. Here’s some pictures of the new mat and part...
Thanks for sharing those UOAs! With TBN at 2.0 and 2.6 after 10K proves the oil can be safely used that long in the 5.7L and early changes really aren’t necessary. Copper is from the oil cooler and isn’t from wear, and copper is a “soft” non abrasive metal that is nothing to worry about. What...
You have just confirmed that your owners manual does in fact have the OCI in it, the oil life monitor IS the official FCA interval for the Hemi 5.7L. It also has the warning not to exceed 10K, one year or 350 hours on the oil.
As others have pointed out every one of your questions is answered in the owners manual, it's up to you whether to follow it or not. There is no recommendation in the OM to change the factory fill early but if it makes you feel better to change it early then by all means do it. You'll see early...
My point is that there is no best oil, just like there's no best car, tire, jeans, watch, shoes etc. There is most expensive and best for specific conditions or situations. An Audemars Piguet Royal Oak may be the best watch for a CEO of a large company to wear at the office but probably not the...
The problem is that some (a lot of) people who have watched the Project Farm "tests" do believe he's the holy grail because he "proved" Amsoil is better than all of the other brands he "tested". And he's made a lot of money along the way fooling people into believing his tests are valid.
Of...
Don’t get caught up in trying to predict how an engine is wearing based on a UOA, it’s really not that simple and takes a lot of training and experience to do that accurately. In this case it’s showing 47 parts per million of iron, but what does that really tell you? Is it from true wear, and if...
The API was formed in 1919, 100 years before Project Farm started. 1509 is on page 3 of the important standards section.

Here it is to make it easier than negotiating the API site.
Engine Oil Licensing (api.org)
I see. So you trust testing done by an amateur in his garage with a hot plate and a GoPro camera but not ASTM testing done by professionals in real laboratories under controlled conditions that are subject to audit and review. One independent organization, The Petroleum Quality Institute of...
Those silly oil "tests" done by Project Farm are nothing more than middles school science fair projects and do not accurately represent an oils performance in an engine and are totally worthless. If someone is genuinely interested in oil testing then I highly recommend they download and read the...
The three samples that have the TBN level shows that the oil could definitely have gone longer. What really jumps out at me is that your first five samples are all out of the 20 grade range and are actually 30 grades, which is why Blackstone highlighted the first four. Even the one from 5-4...
The UOA on your BMW looks excellent. A TBN of 3.6 after 10K+ in a turbocharged engine shows that oil was nowhere near being finished, as Blackstone noted. Insolubles at .2 % shows the oil was clean. Is it safe to assume the oil was very black when you drained it?
I agree it’s a little time consuming, but a lot of folks send samples to Blackstone, Polaris, NAPA and other labs every year for UOA’s and in some cases they catch problems such as fuel dilution or antifreeze in the oil. Your oil was probably just as black at 3K as it was at 6K so if color is...
