    Oil Preference?

I get your concern but only you can decide if it’s too much. I’ve told this before so forgive me for repeating it but I think it’s worth repeating. When I started looking at Rams a year ago I spoke to the mechanic at the ISP district I worked at about the lifter and cam issues with the patrol...

    Oil Preference?

And that's what's wrong with the PF "tests", he wants the viewer to believe his "tests" prove one oil is better than another and people love to see tests that prove the product they use is the best. An oil isn't "better" because it trickles down some PVC pipe faster than its competitor, or less...

    Oil Preference?

Please don't take any of the silly, amateurish oil "tests" he does in his garage seriously. They do not represent what actually happens in an engine and he does not use ASTM approved equipment or test protocols to reach his conclusions. It's just clickbait that makes him a lot of money. To...

Hate it when work gets in the way of important stuff!

    Oil Preference?

I would not dismiss anyone’s claim that Redline quieted down their engine. My question, and this is in my nature to try to look deeper into things, is if there is something in the RL formula that is actually fixing the problem by preventing possible damage or is it just masking the tick sound...

    Oil Preference?

Nice to see a UOA being used as intended, which is primarily to estimate if the oil is capable of the OCI, instead of worrying about a few PPM of "wear" metals, and to show any contaminants such as water, fuel etc. In this case the OLM was pretty conservative considering the TBN, oxidation and...

    Oil Preference?

That’s a good point about the the different types of molybdenum. I’ve read on Infineums site exactly what you said, anything above around 75 ppm does not provide any benefit. More isn’t always better.

    Does Anyone Use Conventional Oil?

I agree, nothing personal, but what I posted wasn't my opinion. It's an undisputed fact that millions of new vehicles are sold every year that come from the factory with synthetic oil, which disproves the opinion that synthetic oil is "too slippery" for proper break-in.

    Does Anyone Use Conventional Oil?

It's amazing that this old wives tale is still believed. A lot of vehicles come from the factory with synthetic oil, including some FCA engines like the 6.2L which uses 0W-40, as well as the 2.0L turbo in my Jeep which specifies 5W-30 synthetic, and both came from the factory with Pennzoil...

1st Oil Change Questions - Warranty voiding...

You mean clearances, not tolerances. Clearance is the distance between moving parts, tolerance is the allowable amount of variation, or error, allowed in the target clearance dimension. The Fram Ultra is one of the best oil filters available, while it's relatively inexpensive it is not cheaply...

All I want for Xmas is an engine oil cooler

The oil cooler also uses heat from the coolant lines to heat up the oil so it gets to the proper operating temperature quicker.

    Short Trips

Water is a byproduct of combustion, so your engine is constantly producing water when it’s running. Water will definitely build up in your oil during short trips but trip length is one of the many data points the OLM considers when establishing when the oil needs to be changed. If you can get it...

New Video on 5.7 Hemi Lifter Failure - Interesting bit of information

I'm glad it was helpful, the video is kind of tedious to set though but I believe he makes some valid points.

    Oil Preference?

The difference in pumpability (flow) between 0W-20 and 5W-20 is relatively small and isn't really apparent until ambient temperatures are down to around -35C or so, and both oils will be extremely viscous at those temperatures. 0W oils are tested for pumpability using a piece of equipment known...

    Floor Mat Recall

Took mine in last Friday, ten minutes from getting checked in until they brought my truck back. It had a yellow tag zip tied to the mat that the service advisor said had to be removed by the owner. Here are some photos of the new one.

    2019 3.6 V6, 0w20 oil?

I think 0W-16 is a remarkable bit of engineering. When you consider the skill and knowledge it took to develop the right blend of base stock(s) and additives to produce an oil of such low viscosity that works as well as it does, in its intended vehicles, is impressive as hell. I also feel the...

    2019 3.6 V6, 0w20 oil?

I meant to mention earlier that the CCS and MRV viscosities are based on different test temperatures. 0W is tested at -35C for the CCS and -40C for the MRV and -30C and -35C respectively for 5W so, while the 0W is higher it's also tested at colder temperatures.

    2019 3.6 V6, 0w20 oil?

I'm not sure why the Pennzoil PDS doesn't show the 0W-20 meeting SP/GF-6A, either it doesn't meet the spec or they just failed to update the info on the website. Ultra is just a weirdly marketed oil, I'm happy with Platinum in my Ram and Jeep, meets all the specs needed, it's easy to find and...

    2019 3.6 V6, 0w20 oil?

I'm not aware of any KV test done at 82F, ASTM D445 tests show the KV at 40C, which is 104F, and at 100C which of course is 212F. Yes, I believe some companies use ASTM D97 for pour point, but ASTM 2602 was replaced by ASTM D5293 for the CCS testing and ASTM D4684 is for MRV.
