You could also go to line-x and have just the tailgate sprayed.
I had the bed and tailgate done on mine and they took the tailgate apart and sprayed so as not to spray over the screws and so it could be taken apart for repairs if needed.
In my opinion it is only a guess a mate anyway. Depends on if the sun is hitting that side or not. Yes it should be closer to a real temp gauge but it would not be something it would obsess about. I find that it fluctuates when driving anyway.
