I’ve said it before but I think the carbon buildup on DI engine a myth, and way overblown.
Directly, I’ve personally seen inside 2 DI-only Ecoboosts including my own and they were both squeaky clean in the valves.
Anecdotally, I’m also active on other less squabbly EcoBoost forums where...
Here’s some fun food for thought:
A lot of similar talk among midsize buyers, grouchy that all the options are going turbo-4.
Anyone thinking about buying a midsize truck would do well to consider ordering a 3.6l V6 Ram 1500 Big Horn from Mark Dodge for the same or less money than a midsize...
This is a real good point that I don’t think has been previously mentioned.
Most other country’s tax (heavily) based on displacement and/or cylinder count.
But the sad realization is indeed they are a European company. We’re down to the Big Two.
Shocks might help some. At least they do with axle hop over bumps at speed, etc.
Not sure how that applies to burnouts and general hooning about, but that use case simply won’t be a stock pickup truck’s forte.
Also worth noting is there will be less room in the cab of the Power Wagon than on the 1500, as the HDs still use the smaller 4th Gen cab.
Would a 1500 with the 6’4” bed length be the sweet spot for you?
Personally I’ve yet to determine what the Ram Boxes do that a couple of Rubbermaid tubs...
I believe either Ram or Ford could put their turbo 6 motors in an HD with a proper cooling stack and have tremendous results.
But I guarantee neither of them wants to be the first to do it because it will definitely crater sales initially due to perceived issues and reputation, so both will...
Depends on purpose and priorities. At this stage for me a half ton is for fun, so I love the Hemi!
I understand that relative to every other half ton maker’s top-shelf motor it is weak. I don’t give a rats, it’s still my favorite engine because of how it feels, works and sounds.
For context...
Yes the modern DOHC 5.0 Coyote as nothing in common with the classic 302s.
That said, the oil leak issue you are referring to was actually a consumption/ burning issue that affected the 2017-2020 generation, although the instances were most associated with the earlier 2017-2018 model years...
That’s a 35, about as tall as you can go stock.
If you’re asking about going wider, a true 12.5x35 is not going to work on stock wheels due to rubbing on UCA.
Yes this engine and transfer case, along with street oriented Bilstiens, needs to be what the Laramie GT package actually is. Street truck for me, plz.
The 5.3 is certainly the thriftiest gas truck option out there, with better results than the turbo 4's and 6's, and at least on par with the NA V6's.
I think that's why they keep it around... cuz there isn't much else good to say about it.
I pretty much confirmed this in real life myself.
Went up to 34.3” tires, but in doing so
- reduced weight at each tire by 2 lbs
- only increased width 20mm (275 to 295)
- went from aggressive to mild AT tread pattern (DuraTrac to Revo3)
- made no other suspension changes (minimal ride height...
Agreed on weight, which is why I found those options and went the the Revo3. Actually lost 2 lbs/tire vs. smaller stock size Duratracs (55 lbs vs 57 lbs).
However stock non-rebel tires should be closer to 40lbs, so still a good weight gain there.
Let us know your perception on ride difference once you get it back together.
Also do you have a shot of the other/underside of the airbag? Im curious about the anti surface between strut perch and airbag.
I think its a) for test drive purposes (wow, that car really sounded great!) and 2) for bad-noise masking as a method that is cheaper for the MFR to meploy vs. a true noise cancelation strategy.
Average consumer does not like direct injection clatter, turbo whistle, or the rattle trap sound of...
