I haven't picked up the TT yet, but went with the 3.92. On the few non-trailer road trips of 60 - 300 miles I have been on, I average 29+ mpg @ speeds of 70-75. That, plus the ride quality, is why we went with the 1500.
If you like that floorplan, there are a few ultra-lite models that will save you some weight. The Freedom Express 257BHS, for example, can pair well with a sensibly optioned 1500.
If the 600lbs. hitch weight is the weight presented from the manufacturer, it is usually based on the 'Unloaded Vehicle Weight' (UVW) of the TT manufacturer, and the TT UVW weight should be ~5,000lbs using the assumed ideal distribution of weight @.12% hitch and 88% TT. You'll want to check that...
We were all set on the apex 300. If you haven't looked at it, might be a viable alternative that helps keep your weights in safe limits (#6,000 dry, #7,600 GVWR, ~#912 max hitch weight). There was quite a wait time to get one when we were trying to purchase, which gave us time to think through...
I was on the hunt for a Tradesman for the reasons highlighted in this thread. We landed on the Bighorn we have now due to some incentives that were very hard to pass up and knowing that we'll be growing into our adventures over time. Finding the right combination that fits your needs takes quite...
Or more if you have an eco (#7200)! :D
Depending on your use case, it might be helpful simply for recovery purposes. Totally agree with attempting to actually 'drive' it, but it might make the difference in getting you back to a spot where a recovery vehicle can help ya out.
I think the overall TT weight is going to push you over your payload limits once you factor in people, cargo, etc. If you're committed to the longer trailer, might be worth considering on of the lighter models like the Apex 300BHS.
It's all ones and zeros at the end of the day. I/O. And/Or, nand/nor, etc... It just takes some creative thinking and they'll be just as functional as any traditional spst switch. Albeit without the tactile flare that some of us analog junkies crave :D
Have you checked the My Mopar site? For me, it tells me the specifics of my truck which was 1lb. different than what is on my sticker. I just used the GVWR - max payload to determine my curb weight. I haven't weighed my truck empty, but did with the family and a few accessories and it seemed...
Haha, absolutely! These days, our trusty packs and tent just won't cut it for anything much beyond the yard with 2 little ones in tow. We plan to do some 'real' camping once we're at an ideal destination (trailer location) to do so. :D
Once we settled on the floorplan/size/weight, it came down to materials, quality, amenities. For us, the Freedom Express was slightly better in the build/design area, including: slide design, drawer space/layout in the kitchen, design of the dinette, integration of the A/V between spaces...
Well, 'local' dealer was back ordered until late November at the earliest, which was good because it gave us a bit more time to think through the necessities and we ended up deciding on the smaller floor plan. Currently working on procuring a Freedom Express Ultra Lite 257BHS. We still plan to...
Well, after a bit more thought and deliberation on needs vs. wants and our long-term goals, we landed on a shorter trailer without the separate bunkhouse. While I was adamant about the separate space initially, reality stepped in to remind me that I haven't towed a trailer of any significance in...
Following! We've finally picked our travel trailer (Freedom Express UL 257BHS) and working on procuring one. In the meantime, I'm very curious to hear where others are landing with their overall measurements.
Maybe something along the lines of this? Looks to be an upfit solution for missing tailgate.
