Most tri-folds are rated in the 300-400 lb range, but we're talking about evenly distributed weight.... which means snow. If you were to jump up on one of these covers and stand on it then it's surely to do some damage.
That wire isn't in the same circuit as the bed lights. I used that same wire for my headache rack lights, if I remember correctly it was for either the marker lights or reverse lights.
They're definitely of the quality where you would want to remove them if you're trading the truck in. Cheaper amazon lights aren't even worth the time it takes to remove them. The lifetime warranty is also another reason.
