I used the marine weather seal from home depot about 3 years ago and haven't had a leak since. Not saying this would be the case for everyone but so far so good for me🤞.
I have active air dam and my gas mileage is sh**. I also have a lift and 35s so my opinion probably doesn't matter. At the end of the day I really can't see it making a huge difference in MPGs.
Yeah that rust seems extreme for 9 months. Here is mine after 2.5 years in the salt belt of PA. I have a little bit of surface rust starting but nothing like yours. I did have fluid film done this past fall so it may have helped a little.
