    Oil Change Intervals

The winking smilie at the end of my post meant I wasn't being serious, it was a bit of humor directed at securityguy.

    Oil!!!!

It's just something FCA vehicle owners have to decide for themselves, and yeah I agree with you on the Ultra. The fact that it doesn't carry GM's tougher than API Dexos 1 certification is enough to tell me it's not worth the extra money, while the Platinum does. It's very strange that Pennzoil...

    Oil!!!!

I've attached the MS-6395 test requirements below. It's from 2013 which would've been during API SN and the tests Chrysler required are straight from the API SN tests, but they also did require a two year fleet test of 100,000 miles using Chrysler vehicles. I would assume Chrysler updated the...

    First Oil Change....

The data sheet you linked to is for their Full Synthetic line which is not Mobil 1, it's a completely different product that was formerly called Super Synthetic and is a tier lower in quality than Mobil 1. I have attached the product page for Mobil 1, you can check any of the products listed...

    Oil!!!!

Exactly. If you scroll to page 132 of the API 1509 it shows the limits on phosphorus and sulfur, which is an element in ZDDP.
  8. HoosierTrooper

    Oil!!!!

Because the API has limits on phosphorus and ZDDP ( zinc dialkyldithiophosphate) because levels that are too high have been shown to damage catalytic converters. Redlines HP has levels well above the API limits on both so they cannot get the API certification. The Professional series has much...

    Oil!!!!

I thought the purpose of message boards was for members to share their knowledge and try to help each other, but maybe I was wrong in this case. I was merely explaining the difference between the two lines of oil that Redline sells and I provided documentation in the form of virgin oil analysis...

    First Oil Change....

If it matters to you Mobil 1 does not carry the Chrysler material standard MS-6395 certification. That may only matter if you have a warranty claim for an engine problem and the dealership and or FCA makes an issue of it.

    Oil!!!!

And one more, here's a RL 5W-30 also from 2018. Different lab but very, very similar results to the 0W-20 which shows the additive package is usually very similar across the grades..

    Oil!!!!

I think they're popular on car enthusiasts forums because most folks understand the importance of choosing the right oil and oil change interval to help improve their odds of the engine lasting a long time. It's also one of the few routine maintenance jobs that most DIY'ers can still do so some...

    Oil!!!!

Got busy doing something else but managed to find some time and found a virgin sample of Redline High Performance 0W-20 from 2018, this is the $12.49 a quart oil. Notice the molybdenum level for this oil is 577, 8 times higher than the Professional Series I posted earlier and the zinc and...

    Oil!!!!

To illustrate my point here is a virgin oil analysis of Redline Professional Series 5W-20 from 2019. Molybdenum is shown at 69 ppm and the zinc is well below the API maximum of 800 ppm. Notice Blackstones comment that the moly level is higher than some but lower than others like Pennzoil Ultra...

    Oil!!!!

It matters none to me what people spend their money on, I just wanted to point out the two Redline oils are different. The High Performance oils sell for $12.49 a quart and the Professional Series is $9.45 a quart, that alone should tell you there’s a big difference in their makeup. If the High...

    Oil!!!!

What I was trying to point out is that Redline sells TWO completely different products, the High Performance line and the Professional Series. They are DIFFERENT oils. The High Performance is not API licensed, have higher levels of ZDDP and do not meet any of the manufacturers certifications...

    Oil!!!!

I think we were not on the same page, and if it was my fault I apologize. I was talking about additive levels of oil, specifically molybdenum, in general and not it's effect on the hemi tick specifically. Do I believe owners who say Redline quieted down their engines? Of course I do, I'm in no...

    Oil!!!!

Also, here’s a Blackstone Labs newsletter from 2017 that pretty much says that brands don’t make a whole lot of difference in average wear rates based on their study of thousands of UOA,s.Since 2017 oils have had two upgrades, SN+ in 2018 and SP this year so the oils available today are much...

    Oil!!!!

My point was that you’re statement “High dose of moly for example, is better than none.” is an opinion not based on facts by pointing out that there are a lot of very good oils that do not contain moly. There are other additives used in place of moly, such as titanium, that work just as well or...
  20. HoosierTrooper

    Oil!!!!

That is an opinion because there are several very good oils, such as some of the Pennzoil Euro line which meets very tough ACEA specs with no moly. Also, some companies have replaced moly with titanium which their testing has found to work better, Castrol and Valvoline being two of them.Boron is...
