1,150 is the last class 4 (1500) max receiver weight rating that I’ve seen in Ram literature. But keep in mind if you are using a WDH as Ram recommends for trailers over 5k this can & should be manipulated to a point.
Say you have a really big for the half ton platform 9k wet weight TT with a...

I get the gas golf cart analogy even though I never had a gov tune 3.55 model. What a world of difference driving a 3.92 geared with GDE engine & transmission tune is. It’s actually super responsive crisp & powerful feeling in traffic. Mind you when floored it’s still not going to rocket off...
I think offering both 3.92 & 3.21 does make everyone happy. Only use for 3.55 is if they were only going to offer one gear and had to make it a best compromise gear so to speak.
Could Ram have a made a taller jump into the second overdrive or 8th gear as Aseras suggested. Perhaps but it...
However it will use that first gear jump and continue to out pull (trailer or no trailer) through the gears. Rate of acceleration. The 3.92 shows this and is rated to tow more because of it on and per the SAE J2809 tow tests & standards. So while what you say is true it sort of misses or...
Lol Fiat no more builds the ECO than the Hemi. FCA just now owns the financials of VM Motori like they do with Chrysler. What does Fiat cars have to do with how Ram trucks are built? The old ECO had emissions derived problems where Ram tried to slap on US gov emissions systems / requirements...
Pandyman you may want to weigh that trailer it’s likely a lot less than 6,500.
Manny whoops you need to be on all 3 scale pads with hitch attached. It’s how the scale is used as a tool to adjust your axle weight distribution or WDH & loading for proper safety stability & legality.
Ideally...
hdgmctruck, Timbren's are just a bigger snubber thats not as hard or harsh as its a sealed block of air instead of a solid chunk of rubber. They are far from good but they are cheap and won't leak. I have not used Sumo urethane springs but they have to have a better transition, weighted ride...
NDanecker great post. I don't want to be repetative to things I posted earlier in this thread even though there always seem to be people who read the OP post and the last post and nothing in between. In the last 6 years and 660k miles towing TTs from Mfgrs to dealerships I've literally CAT...
Zeronet I use the Andersen. Quick easy light no need for specific springs bars, backs, is quiet & smooth, built in sway control. All that said there are others that work great. Its somewhat what you get use to and good at set up with. More conventional I like the Husky Centerline & Blue Ox...
As a TT / boat Mfgr & commercial transporter I do that type of load several time a year for the last 5 years. Axles & tongue weight and distribution set by WDH & loading via CAT scale results for maximum stability & safety. Paying attention to axles, receiver, and combined vehicle weight...
If you are using a WDH and you show the DOT cop your CAT scale slips showing a gain in combined axle weight IE gross vehicle weight of 1,150 or less you are golden.
Corntruck if water is 8.35 pounds per gallon and if the trailer heavy steel heavy axle & tires weighs 2,000 that’s 11,185 pounds. At 10 percent TW that’s 1,120 on the receiver.
You don’t want more than 4,300 on drive axle and the receiver is max rated at 1,150. Otherwise a rough bump or hole...
FWIW actual seen tongue weight (TW) when using a WDH is calculated by subtracting combined unloaded truck axle weight using your CAT scale slips as example from your combined loaded with trailer truck axle weight.
This number is adjustable via WDH, trailer, and truck loading. This is great...
I see the WDH spring bars. So wet likely around 7,500 gross. If so aim to set TW to around 900 as seen by the increase in your combined truck axle weight on the CAT scale with steer axle showing the same ish as when unloaded and she will tow straight & stable even with only two fingers on the...
Love the ED but per his needs / usage the ED is not the ideal pick for the OP.
There is no factory engine braking more accurately turbo braking with a turbo diesel ED. It does have braking assistance from the transmission but in factory settings is very mild. In gen 2 the lack of turbo brake...
