Just put Dielectric Grease for electrical connectors in the plug then forget about it. It should water proof it and keep it clean if you ever what to re-attach it.

There is a clamp, so lossen the nut and swing the tip where you want it. Loosen it more to remove it from the exhaust pipe.

I would assume they are clear coated. The white is corrosion, as aluminium turns chauky when it "rusts".

That one looks defective. Mine is tight and looks professional. It folds in 3 towards the cab.
