Basically what was said above. Payload limits suck on a 1/2 ton.
You can move the fullsize Spare (if you have one) into the back of the trailer you are towing to gain 75'ish lbs of payload.
Maybe just a OCD thing for me.. but I turn it off when I first drive the truck (cold start). I will usually turn it back on once the truck is upto temp. Mine will literally turn MDS on while going through my little town at 25 mph, when the truck isn't even over 125F yet.
Changed all mine out with Amsoil 15k(?) miles ago.. used whatever Amsoil stated on their website for all three. I use Auto 4wd a decent amount and tow a decent sized trailer a few thousand per year. Never had any issues. I'm @ 62K miles now.
Make sure you can loosen the fill bolts prior to...
Biggest factor on a 1/2 ton will be your payload.
I have the 3.92s and a 13XX lb payload.. with fuel, hitch weight, driver, and a 10-15% tongue weight, there is no way I can get close to that mythical 11,000lbs tow rating without going over the payload.
Not sure if it's been mentioned, but the Etrq system is cover by the 8yr / 80k(?) mile emissions warranty. That being said, and with the exception of the occasion occurrence of really odd noises from the Etrq system, it has worked fine for the last 4yrs & 62k miles. Though my mileage, mostly...
I spray the joints on mine every now and again.. I also try to remember to give them a good soak every 5k when I change the oil.
I use this Lithium garage door spray stuff. Can't recall the brand.. but 62k miles in South Jersey (alot of Salt in the winter) and they still work fine.
Mine seems to only comes on when I'm going downhill, under 45mph, with a strong tailwind, and acouple midgets pushing from the back.. :sneaky:
Been like that since new and I'm somewhere in the 62k+ mile range now
What's worse is people actually think that is a deal.. gonna be a ***** when it comes time to trade it in and they only give ya less than KBB for a Laramie.
Mine had he crack and was replaced back in Jan/Feb 2020. -knock on wood- almost 4 yrs and 60k miles, it's been fine since. Truck sits outside in Jersey weather, iirm.
Third brakelight was done shortly after, and it's still holding up as well.
Literally check the back seat everytime it rains...
The yellow door sticker with the payload rating for that exact truck, will have a larger impact on what you can 'legally' tow vs the rear gearing.
Very rarely can a 1500 handle anywhere close to the tow rating you see on their websites and commercials.
Example: My truck has an advertised tow...
Had both replaced and I'm pretty sure atleast one is leaking again, though apparently not bad enough for the dealer to find it.. and I just hit 60k yesterday.. so I'm sure they'll find it now.
The added wind resistance of the lift & larger diameter tires (reducing your effective gear ratio) are also hurting you alot. So while lessening the rolling weight will help, it will never be close to what you had prior to the lift & larger tires.
Depending on what the markets (housing & truck) do next year, I'll be in the market. For me, RAM hasn't done enough since I bought my 2019 for them to be considered. I'll be shopping Ford and, for the first time ever, I'll be looking at the GM twins.
RAM will need to be insanely discounted for...
It's been awhile, but I think it has: acouple U clamps that go around the axles, the brackets that reinforce the Caliper mounting bracket, and some hardware to put it all together.
I believe this is the part #:
