This engine hasn't been proven yet, just because they have it in the jeep line, doesn't mean squat. The Eco Diesel was used in the Jeep line, and not much negative feedback that I have read over the years. It's when they went into the Ram production that the engine had major issues, alot of them...
So the software investment is a one time cost, and the sensors aren't that much. If the Hurricane Engine has a 10 year run as the most popular engine, seeing how it replaces the Hemi, the costs associated with the dip stick is a huge saving. there is the cost machining of the block, the tube...
Thats the specific design of that outboard, to help bass boats get to plane faster. Another nice feature, if you don't run aground, is water inlets at the nose of the bullet cone on the lower unit, it forces water into the water pump when running on plane. I should have gone with the standard...
We are all wrong, due to multiple posting of laughing emoji's, I researched the PCV. 1st - Its illegal to vent to atmosphere when engine is running, and for the most part the engine is sealed. The engine isn't perfectly sealed if you consider the atmosphere can penetrate through the valve...
It pushes my 21' Tritoon just fine, but I'm sure you'd like it on your Ranger. The 150 Pro XS has a lower ratio gearbox in the lower unit at 2.08:1 with range of 5200-6000 RPM vrs the 150 Four stroke 1.92:1 range is 5000-5800 RPM. Make sure to get Vessel View, so you can see info on your phone...
Besides the bean counters, the only reason I can think of for deleting the dip stick, is that its not sealed, and oil is hydroscopic, especially synthetic oil. With the atmospheric pressure changes, it will allow atmosphere to inter the crankcase or transmission. Of coarse that is a theory, I...
Thats the same procedure when filling a lower unit on a outdrive/outboard boat motor. Which brings me back to advertised capacity vrs actual capacity, my new Mercury 150 Pro XS O/B motor says 28.1 fluid oz of gear oil for the lower unit. I pumped in 28oz and found it 1" lower than the breather...
Good point, but how much does a starter cost to replace when bad. There were a few times when I was a kid and not a penny to my name, I had to push start my POC manual trans Capri.
Thats why after changing the HP75 trans fluid, the book wants you to run and double check and correct fluid level if required at a specific temperature. The only problem is there's no dip stick to make it easy.
I’ve already gone over the points, if you think the new motor is superior to the Hemi, spend your $70K to buy it. I get a kick how the Hemi was considered a good engine until someone poured out the coolaid
Really Jimmy, if you check your oil as per the owners manual, especially when changing oil as I do, then when cold in the morning, the level will be the same every time you check a cold engine at the level it is when cold. The oil doesn't magically stay in the engine until you warm it up, you...
I don't have to know everything about this engine to know its over engineered, just reading the BS from Fiat tells me. How many engines have a sensor to "see" the combustion to help the ECM tune as well as keep in EPA compliance. I may may be over the top per your opinion, but your also drinking...
The point is more towards how complicated this new truck is, not that there is no dip stick. A message on the dash telling you that your a quart low is ridiculous.
I'm curious as to the reason you check your oil before you start your engine every time? I would check every time I get fuel, if I suspected oil consumption.
No, its the Fiat way of doing business at fault. Lets just assume that the dipstick isn't accurate, but when I fill it to full mark every time I change the oil, it'll always be the same level every time.
I'm sorry you don't like the fact that I'm not jumping on the bandwagon with Fiat...
Yes its true I am a 3.0 I6 hurricane hater, and so what if I am? As a new engine, it'll impress everyone with the so-called more HP than the Hemi, but wait until you have to repair that sucker, you'll feel like a sucker when only the dealer can work on it. Again its over engineered, with two...
I had the dealer service my HP75 as a cautionary reason, bought it used. Went on a 2K+ mile trip and asked if they could check the trans oil level, ya for $$$$$, I miss the dipstick.
Well you have me on that issue. ;)
I have never had an engine that accurate, with reported capacity vrs...
All I can say is, enjoy your over engineered I6 Hurricane, I know I won't buy one, even if I have to go back to a CTD to replace my current truck. BTW, I wonder how many times it'll take you to look on your dash to see if you have to add more oil when changing it.
