Somewhere here in this thread some, people have found some more heavy duty valves to use.
There are certainly some better quality shut off valves available. I remember seeing some people here using them. Definitely good idea to keep watching your valve. Thanks for the update.
Unless the improvement, or lack of improvement is measured with a thermometer b4 and after at the vents, it's really just perceived. I'm not knocking anyone's notion that their Ac is fine, or better now. Feeling cool is very subjective to one's personal comfort. The real proof is in the numbers!
I just laid mine on the carpet on top of the transmission hump behind the HVAC system. Right up by the gas pedal on the right. It just sits there, has never moved, all hidden and out of the way. I've had it to the dealer for two services, I don't take it out, or worry about my heater hose AC...

Just for fun, pinch off your heater hose going to the heater core for a 5 minute test. Then you'll see what temperatures the system is capable of, and what it should be blowing if we want it to.
don't know why one side would smell and not the other, but try a new cabin air filter. Had a Tacoma that started smelling like "wet socks". New filter solved it.
For a lot of people, the AC is not a problem. That does not mean it's not a problem for others. The real test is vent temperatures, what temperature AC air is blowing out of your vents, And what vents?
I found that keeping the valve closed all the way, got me the vent temperature was seeking. The hose clamps are really designed to be use as a temporary stop, when doing a repair that requires coolant hoses to be unhooked, so you don't lose coolant.
Update completed, every thing works, and is where it should be. It said to find out more about updates, "press assist button and then vehicle care". That made phone call to Ram assistant, they said update was for, "new satellite connectivity" and had no new features.
