Thanks for replying. I'm surprised you could feel any power difference with shorty headers. I wouldn't think they'd yield more than 5-10hp max. That's been my experience with shorties in the past.
It's definitely not the Active Grille Shutter. My Big Horn does not have Active Grille Shutters and I get the clanking noise sometimes when starting with my foot firmly on the brake.
I installed a catch can at 1,000 miles with hopes of slowing carbon building up enough to prevent pinging in the first place. Once pinging has started, installing a catch can is not likely to help much.
That's not pinging. It's valvetrain noise. Two very different things. But I'm glad you've had sucess with Lucas Oil Stabilizer in reducing valvetrain noise. This will almost certainly help somebody.
I'm on a 1,000-mile round trip vacation now. For the first 10 minutes or so after I started the truck, voltage was 13.9v. After that, it was 12.6v for the remainder of the trip. Stopped for the night and same thing: starts out at 13.9v then back to 12.6v after a few minutes. Sure seems low...
Yeah, unfortunately, the only way to gain that much additional torque is through increased displacement and/or increased compression. Forced induction "effectively" provides both. The good news is it shouldn't require a ton of boost to get those kind of numbers.
