Yes, the "rubber button" is a switch. If you are hard wiring the lights to a power source you will need to replace it with a simple on-off switch. The replacement I posted will fit in the OEM light. If I remember right I had to do a little filing to make it fit.
If you have a tonneau cover and...
Yes, you can wire OEM lights to the trailer harness.
If you are just wiring lights to the trailer harness or white/tan wire in the cab you don't need the factory harness. You can buy the OEM left light (with switch) online Mopar part # 68312567AB. The right side is #68312566AB. I paid $60.35...

It's normal for almost all the vehicles I've ever owned. Out of dozens of vehicles of multiple brands, only one has been fairly accurate (early Acura TL). Every other vehicle computer has over calculated the mileage. My guess is the manufacturers do this on purpose to make the majority of owners...
On the rear passenger floor there is a plastic plug behind and slightly towards the center of the truck from the in floor storage bins. Look under the truck or pull back the carpet and you will find it.

I have a 26 gallon tank on my Bighorn. I don't normally let it get lower than 1/8 to 1/4 tank before I fill it, but recently let it get low enough to trigger the low fuel level light. I think it indicated a range around 40 miles left when I refilled it. It took 22.8 gallons.
