3.6 "feel" related to sound deadening?

Just a quick update - I moved my home made exhaust damper to the bend in the Y pipe that underneath the passenger seat. That seems to be more effective than under the drivers seat. But, I think I’m going to need one on each side. I also plan on mounting 2 to the frame - at the same mounting...

3.6 "feel" related to sound deadening?

So today I decided to remove the tow hooks on the front of the truck, as I could feel a buzz in them when the truck was idling and revved to the dreaded 2000 RPM. Reinstalled the plastic inserts and tightened the mounting bolt back to 85lbs. I also checked/tightened the nuts where the running...

3.6 "feel" related to sound deadening?

Yeah, you’re right a band clamp would likely be a better choice... I can try that as well! I’m going to try and see if the front axle or the steering assembly in the front end can be dampened. I’m not sure I’d know if I had a bad motor mount - the dealership said they were “fine”. But who knows...

3.6 "feel" related to sound deadening?

Yeah, it was colder today and my exhaust damper wasn’t as effective. I loosened all the exhaust clamps/joints and retightened when the exhaust was warm to try and help adjust and reduce vibrations. I really need to figure out how to reduce the vibrations transferring from the motor to the front...

3.6 "feel" related to sound deadening?

I should also add that the vibration is definitely more noticeable when it’s cold, you guys probably already realize that. I’m going to reposition the damper and keep trying a few other things as the vibrations are still present. Not sure how to get rid of the vibrations out of the front axle as...

Feeling the road through the gas pedal?

I think the V6 gas and diesel are more likely to suffer from vibrations than the HEMI, but I thought I’d post here as some HEMI guys said they have similar vibration issues. It couldn’t hurt to try for $50.

Feeling the road through the gas pedal?

Hi guys - I think I figured it out! I clamped a weight to the exhaust and it seemed to have disrupted and nearly eliminated the vibrations. I posted in another thread. https://5thgenrams.com/community/threads/3-6-feel-related-to-sound-deadening.24622/post-420389

3.6 "feel" related to sound deadening?

Alright, guys - I think I (mostly) solved our problems. After trying a handful of things - I think this is the solution. In the picture below, you'll see that I clamped a damper weight on the Y- Pipe right in the bend, underneath the drivers seat. I found these frame dampers that were installed...

3.6 "feel" related to sound deadening?

A couple of us have added resonators on the straight pipe just before the muffler - it definitely helps quiet the ride. However, you’ll find the vibration still persists in the drivers seat. The exhaust resonates at around 2000 RPM and I believe the only way to dampen is to clamp some heavy...

Feeling the road through the gas pedal?

Okay - so preliminary findings... - vibration is less with the hood up with the intake tube off and decorative plastic off. Maybe the vibration is transferring from intake tube through hood to cabin. - exhaust vibrates quite a bit, wondering if damper weights near mount points of muffler...

Feeling the road through the gas pedal?

I can guarantee it’s not the tires. If the vibration is at its worst around 2000 RPM under load, something in the engine/driveline is vibrating. Tomorrow I’m going to have my wife rev the truck to 2000 while I crawl underneath and check what’s vibrating. Hoping I find the culprit... The question...

Feeling the road through the gas pedal?

I’m going to try and add the transfer case skid plate and add the frame dampers that were on the 4th gens to try and disrupt the vibration. Because I have the 3.6L, I don’t have the electronic frame dampers like the 5.7’s do.

    The Poor Shifting Transmission Thread

I just drained a bit of trans fluid from my truck and after a couple days it started shifting much better. No more “drag”, bumping or clunking when downshifting. Holds 8th much better on the highway as well...

Hesitation off the line when trans/engine is cold - anyone else?

Just a follow-up. After taking out 1/3 to 1/2 quart of transmission fluid the truck is driving and shifting like a top. It took a couple days, but the truck will now shift into 8th and hold 8th on the highway, in cabin vibrations are reduced and no more bump/clunk on downshifts and surging when...

Hesitation off the line when trans/engine is cold - anyone else?

Thanks! The truck was level and the transmission temp was 95 degrees according to the dash. I will check back in after a few more days of testing.

Hesitation off the line when trans/engine is cold - anyone else?

I can confirm this as well! I dumped about half a quart of extra trans fluid today, and plugged it back up. The truck seems to roll much smoother and I haven’t experienced the bump or clunk when shifting in my last few test drives. I might try to remove more but I got nervous when it was coming...

    3.6L etorque K&N intake installed

Whelp, the vibrations are lessened with the intake. Not gone completely, but better. But, this thing is LOUD when you give it gas. The engine does seem more responsive, but man, I don’t think I can live with it being this loud. I might try the AFE intake to compare...

DO NOT install a flowmaster on your 3.6!

What are the theories that attributed to MPG loss? Lack of back pressure caused the ECU to adjust? Just curious, I would think more flow would result in better MPG. I had a corsa cat back on the truck for a while but it was too loud.

    Rattle noise from engine

Same here ^^ - OP check to see if it’s RPM dependent in the 1800 to 210 RPM range while the truck is under load. While it’s doing it maybe shift to neutral and see if the problem goes away. I can typically get mine to vibrate when accelerating and shifting gears - more pronounced when going up...

3.6 "feel" related to sound deadening?

Im very frustrated, but don’t want to lose upwards to 10k trading it in and buying another. I’m trying a K&N intake as a long shot (others have said it helps with reducing vibration at 2000 RPM), and adding the V6 diesel steering wheel damper behind the air bag - to reduce the vibrations at the...
