Took a pic of my engine before dissassembly so thought I'd post a pic of the solenoid valves which control oil flow to the lifters thus enabling/disabling the valves for their respective cylinder.
Wonder if e torque was developed more to offset the side effects of MDS because e torque alone does little to improve fuel economy. certainly not a hybrid electric vehicle.
I agree. I believe that 14.1 was an instant mileage number given by the lie-o-meter. Drive for a few hundred miles to get a true average and it will be down in the 10 or less. LOL
I drove from PA to NJ when picking up a 7 x 14 v nose trailer (empty). I got 10's running 65 or so, and taking it easy. Stayed mostly in 7th, and I have 3.92. Gas motors suck (and I mean both gas and experience) for towing. If you tow a lot I'd stay away from anything gas. Just my opinion...
Yea, not so much about weight as it is about frontal area/wind resistance. I usually averaged 9.5 to 10mpg pulling that fiver with the diesel. Gross was around 27k. Diesels shine when towing. Gas trucks are awful but do get the job done. IMO, its not so much about the mileage but the towing...
My brother had a 79 Chevy Impala which had the lobes round out around 100k miles. Most chevy's had this issue back then (305/350) as GM was making their cams soft. I would have hoped we learned a few things in metallurgy and lubricants over the past 40 years. LOL
My old setup. I believe it was 43' and change, and the truck an 8' bed of course. That other guy must have had a chassis 3500 and custom bed. Some parks were a PITA to get into, but fun times! :)
Somehow I knew this thread was going to slide into the never-ending overweight wars.
So this is my contribution - a humble request to keep this thread on topic and just post pics of trailers. If you want to debate GVWR tow ratings there are so many other threads to discuss this on. I, as...
I agree. I feel MDS is a waste and something FCA was forced into to meet stricter mileage requirements in the interim until they release the new inline 6 turbo to replace it (which again I'm not a fan of). If they stop offering a v8 I'm tapping out, and going back to the Cummins / HD. LOL.
I...
I agree with others you are near and possibly over the caps. If you really plan to tow frequently with lots of gear you may want to consider a 2500 or 3500. Once you tow with a heavy diesel that has the stiffer suspension, tires and more torque you'll see the difference first hand, and be...
I thought these lifter issues were cleared up a few years ago? Unfortunate to hear but good thing they are covering it under warranty. Hopefully its an isolated case, and not another common problem as it was a few years ago.
Have you though about disabling MDS and blocking off the ports...
I usually run 87 or 89 but since I'm doing some extreme motor mods in a week or 2 I have been filling with 93 to flush out the lower octane fuel in the tank. All I can say - wow. Not sure if the ECM is slowly reprogramming the fuel mapping and/or timing because of detonation with the lower...
I'm not flame baiting and I have lots to contribute but feel different with comparing a Baja/Offroad inspired vehicle, such as the Raptor and TRX, to an electric go-cart. Sorry if you feel different but that's my feeling on the subject. Two totally different markets. Two totally different...
Um....I pointed out the thread got off topic. Sorry if that hurts your butt. I believe you started the name calling by suggesting I'm a troll, and should "get back under my bridge".
Not continuing this further with you. Have a nice life, and Merry Christmas!!!
