I wouldn't see any advantage to removing the bumper just to get to the skid plate, but there's a lot involved in removing the skid plate, including removing some plastic trimming that surrounds the steel bumper. There are metal clips under there that probably need a special tool to remove...
Not sure on the best bet to making it more permanent. Bead-blasting the factory finish could make the paint adhere better, but that would require removing the plate, having access to bead-blasting equipment, and worrying about rust.

They don’t send out the pointy stars in the picture anymore. They sent me the rounded ones, and only after emailing did they send the sharp ones. May want to email them in advance.

Agreed. I also thought the comments would be GM fans pretending the Silverado was perfect, but far from it. They see the same problems with the new model that everyone else does (bad interiors and terrible front-end design).

Agreed. The color of the skid plate was about the only design choice on the new Rebel I didn't like. Question is, will FCA sell the black plate separately...
The biggest knock on the series is the constant, pointless name-dropping of the Raptor. They're endlessly calling the Raptor "king of off road" or "the best off road truck" or other silly superlatives. The Raptor's only big advantage over the Rebel is its suspension, which can take landings...
Just finished mine. The paint will likely be extraordinarily delicate, since I didn't sand down the plate, I just rattle-canned over it. However, I didn't want to worry about rust when it inevitably scratched anyway, so I left the nice finish under it. When it gets worn, it'll just have that...
