I'd say that's a non-issue for a solid state amplifier based on a quick search on the matter. I've been running mine for months with the subwoofer unplugged, as do many others who do anything aftermarket.

To my knowledge, the amplifier cannot be updated OTA. So whatever update you received likely did not change your sound system.

Those Legatia's are a bit too rich for my blood (~$1,000 per speaker?), plus I didn't want to power them with an aftermarket amp. Only 1 day with the Hertz 700.3 ML's and so far I'm pretty pleased with them and they do just fine on the stock HK amp. May be worth trying!
