Second that.
Here in CA because I’ve built a business that isn’t portable. Beautiful state, but expensive.
Hearing out of state folks roast CA is like listening to a broke guy in a rusty 3rd gen saying he’d never buy a 5th gen cause it looks like a Tundra.
He’s never gonna buy it because...
2018 Tacoma... the cab was just too small for a big guy, but mostly it was the gutless motor paired with a terrible tranny/tune that shifted all the damn time. Pretty and capable on trails, but downright agonizing to drive.
The Ram is a big upgrade in space and power.
Less power/torque than a Camry if I remember right. Messed around with the OVtune stuff, still didn’t really help it that much. Still wouldn’t hold onto gears long enough to reach the power band.
The tacomaworld folks were (and still are) a pretty rad community for gathering info, but that...
Running 35s with corrected speedo seeing around 16.5 mpg avg. I’m at 10k now, and the economy is easily 1.5-2mpg better than it was for the first 7.5k or so... there’s definitely an improvement.
Eco light = cylinder deactivation as far as I know. Seeing it plenty after 5k or so, not at all...
Hunch is that matting the gas will not give the best response... it seems to want to march through a preset pattern of premature upshifts that happen way before max powerband in each gear. Butt dyno has had best result with a slow push on skinny pedal that steadily increases in pressure until...
On the Ram website, build the various trims and take a screenshot of the same exterior 3D view of each. Stack into a pdf and click through them to see the differences.
Rebel bumper comes up higher, so the grill and fender bits under lights are shorter.
That’s a terrific comparisson article! Should have clarified that the hemi I test drive was also 3.92, which helped it sit level with the F-150 3.5 EB. I was coming from a super wimpy 3rd gen Tacoma, so torque-ey gearing was definitely on my radar!
My butt dyno has a tie for the Ford 3.5 EB and the Ram 5.7 Hemi, so went Ram because of the bigger cabin and better price. Pretty stoked on the decision still. The 6.2 GM is the only one I didn’t drive. Kinda wonder about that still.
Going to get one 37x12.5r18 mounted on my 5th wheel to move around and test front/rear tuck & clearance.
Don’t really have the patience to pull my shocks. Thinking to just get the floor jack under the spindle/axel by the test wheel and go up.
Is this an incredibly dumb idea for a reason I...

Yeah, ARE Z2 Cap w/ topper EZ lift system. Low profile and really just works. Built a bed platform to put a full size 35” spare, surfboards, and gear below with still plenty of room for tired humans above. Can’t say enough about the system.
My halogens leak. One of the many things that’ll be resolved when my LED’s and harness show up.
FYI if you do get any moisture or fogging you can throw in a desiccant packet... works like a charm, pretty fast too.
