    First Tow with 2022

Here’s a 2 yr follow up of my 2022 Ram Laramie with 33k miles now and 21k miles towing. This truck has performed exactly the same as when I started out towing new. Tow mileage is 10 -11.5 @ 65 -67 mph depending on the conditions and engine uses very little if any oil between the 5k mile oil...

How often do you change your engine oil?

I purchased a case of Mopar MO-339 filters when new and use whatever 0w20 MS-6395 rated oil that is on sale (Havoline, Pennzoil, Quaker State to date) and change at 5k miles with an oil meter reading of mid 40% towing a 7k trailer over 60% of the time. Less than $40 to change. At 33k miles in...

    Tow/haul mode always when towing?

You think wrong because you read someone here post this which is not true. You can’t damage the Ram 1500 transmission not using T/H when towing. And using T/H does nothing to the transmission line pressure. T/H changes the shift rpm map and allows almost no mph drop when in the cruise mode which...

    Tow/haul mode always when towing?

If the transmission programming allows for the shift to whatever gear given the load and maintain it, there is NO lugging of the engine. If it won’t maintain, it’ll drop to the next lower gear and remain there because the transmission is programmed that way. Whether my engine is at 2600+ in 6th...

    Tow/haul mode always when towing?

That’s your Opinion. You’ve never towed in anything but TH. That is the Fact. This isn’t a manual transmission. Towing without using TH does NOT lug the engine. The trans will downshift to the needed gear based on the engine load, Guaranteed! TH does nothing more than increase the rpm shift...

    Tow/haul mode always when towing?

I’d try it to see what the results are. You won’t/ can’t hurt anything trying this. Imho your 3.21 gear isn’t optimum for mileage when towing, as it increases the rpm spread between the upper gears. I‘m towing a 7000# 24’ enclosed car hauler (29’) with 3.92 and no longer use Tow Haul. I’ve used...

    Dead Battery Poll

Blain's Farm & Fleet 7-Year Platinum Automotive Battery, 49 - 49P | Blain's Farm & Fleet I put this same Platinum battery H7 in my 2011 Ram and is still being used by the second owner over 7 yrs old.

    Dead Battery Poll

I went back one page in this thread and found a battery pic that was marked 15/10/18 in a truck built 10/18 which means they use military date coding on these batteries. My battery is marked 1/10/21, truck built 10/21 and getting replaced this October with a 7yr H8. The hassle of being stuck...

    Dead Battery Poll

My truck was built first week of October 2021. I’m looking at the battery today for a build date and it’s 1-10-21. So now I’m wondering if they use military dating on these batteries where it’s date / month / year. The distributor is from Milwaukee, WI which is 350 miles from Detroit. Does...

    Chips in Body Color Bumper

After driving a 2011 Ram 1500 Sport with plastic front facia for 180k and still looked very good, I was disappointed when I saw this model front was no longer available in 5th Gens. Painted plastic front bumper covers for the 5th Gen would be more desirable imho. I bought a paint tube from the...

    Tow/haul mode always when towing?

I’m towing 7k# and never use Tow/Haul. Put it in 7th gear to keep it from hunting 7-8 on level ground. Towing 5.5% grades up / down I can manually select the lower gear if desired. Most times it shifts to the correct gear to maintain speed on its own. T/ H holds the lower gear longer than...

Fluids Change Time (Transfer, Differential, Transmission)

Transmission manufactures have fluid blends developed specifically for their transmissions. They do this to ensure their product will continue working as designed long after the warranty has expired. They License this formula to companies that want to produce this Licensed approved fluid and...

Fluids Change Time (Transfer, Differential, Transmission)

US_Val_MLMultiVehicle_ATF_EN.pdf - DocuSign CLM I downloaded the above VALVOLINE™ MAXLIFE™ MULTI-VEHICLE TRANSMISSION FLUID product information file. The second paragraph states “it should be noted that MaxLife Multi-Vehicle Transmission Fluid is NOT an OEM licensed product”. In the...

    Another tow mirror thread.

Yep. The standard Ram mirrors are far superior to the tow mirrors. Standard mirrors have the night dimming feature the tow mirror lacks. They are easier to see around than tow mirrors when in the down position. Unless you’re towing over 7’ wide, imho they are a poor choice. I tow 102” wide car...

Dead battery would have left me stranded...

I was going to wait and replace my battery in September, but noticed now the H8 (49) model of the battery I’m putting in is today $40 less expensive than their standard H7 (94R). This is the replacement brand (Farm + Fleet) I used in my 4th Gen and was over 6 yrs old when traded. I put this same...

Dead battery would have left me stranded...

Considering the low quality battery installed in new Rams, replacement with a high quality aftermarket 16 months later is CHEAP imho. You’re driving a $60+K vehicle, and spending under $200 for a 7yr battery now is a wise choice. I’m replacing mine at 2 yrs in Sept this year. When my truck is...

    What octane are we using?

Agreed….Flex fuel street vehicles will run E10 or less to E85 without any problem. The ECU mapping/ control corrects for any blend from low to high. In drag racing competition where fastest or most consistent is the goal, any difference in ethanol blend percentage from desired E85 can possibly...
