No problems, thanks for replying. Do you happen to recall if the EGT sensor is located at the passenger side? I notice the smell mainly and most strong at the passenger side and the engine seems to be a little louder also on the passenger side (when listening to it at idle while standing...
Rhombus,
Would you be able to post a copy of your service ticket that shows the fix the dealer applied that resolved your diesel exhaust smell issue? I am still dealing with the diesel exhaust issue even though they already replaced a part. I was reading back through this post looking for any...
I use a gallon size freezer bag to hold the additive bottle, funnel, shop towel and disposable gloves. I keep mine in the rambox on the fuel filler side. The in-floor storage would work too with the freezer bag.
Be sure to reference the star cases when you open your case. There's the star case that was referenced to assist my issue and there's the star case that was created as a result of my issue and supposed fix, both star case #s are visible in the partial service ticket previously posted.
The dealer where I purchased the vehicle is 2 hours away. I took it to them 1st for the diesel smell. They put me in a loaner, kept the truck for 4 days then informed me that they could not smell any diesel exhaust odor. The 2nd and 3rd visits were to my local dealer. The 2nd visit (1st...
Be careful with your wording when you take it in. If you sometimes but not all the time smell it in the cabin, that can be interpreted as intermittent. Instead, consider stating the problem something like this, "...there is a diesel exhaust odor at the front section of the vehicle; the smell...
Big Red Rebel,
The cover is awesome. Unexpectedly though, I get lots of compliments when I'm out and about. Currently, the truck is at the dealer getting an issue resolved. When I get it back I will post more pics of the truck/cover. Will also take measurements and answer there as well...
...might be getting somewhere with this. After 3rd visit to dealer, they say they have found the issue; it's an EGR tube problem. It must have been defective from the factory because I had begun noticing the diesel exhaust odor before hitting 50 miles on the odometer. They have the truck now...
I went with DiamonBack HD. It arrived, I installed--I'm a happy camper. I do need to place weather stripping around the tailgate perimeter (areas where tailgate and bed meet) to get a good tight seal. Because I have the Ramboxes, I also will be applying weather stripping to those 4-6" gaps...
Congrats on your truck order. I have less than 300 miles so far but with that, I'm seeing 23 mpg in town and on the two highway trips (from and back to the dealer) I'm seeing 29 mpg @ 70mph. No fill ups yet so those numbers are per the trucks calculations. I'm in the same camp as you regarding...
Understood. In my case, it definitely is the very familiar diesel exhaust smell (however faint). And yet, the tail pipe exhaust odor is clean; something is off. I hope to hear from the dealer soon that the issue was determined and a remedy is or will be applied.
myles,
When you say burning smell, was it noticeably diesel exhaust or more like the residuals of a brand new engine going through its initial use phases that can throw off those expected burning odors? Thanks for replying and congrats on your truck.
Yeah, I tend to think something like a cracked header or split manifold is the culprit. The good news is that it is consistent vs intermittent. Just trying to be cool and prepared for them to come back with "we don't notice any smell", etc type comment.
Hello 5THGENRAMS,
I purchased a 2020 Ram 1500 Limited EcoDiesel. Perhaps I will start another thread talking about how awesome a vehicle it is--but 1st; I gotta talk about the elephant (or dead dinosaurs) in the room. Unbelievably, I am getting diesel exhaust smells in the cabin while the...
Likewise, I bought mine on 12/20. Drove it 115 miles home from dealer at 65 mph mostly. 10 miles or so of the trip was city traffic; I averaged 28.7 per the trucputer.
Pepper,
Nice truck and congrats. I recently purchased an EcoDiesel with nearly the same specs as your rig. Question on the cover, when trying to get to the right cover variant for the rambox with multifunction gate, I can only chose the rambox w/o multifunction gate. Is this (below) what you...
