Both REV and Ramcharger are slated for (likely late) 2024 per the union contract highlights documents that were released, not 2025.
Whether that timeline holds or slips is entirely up in the air, of course, but end of 2025 is not the plan as of last month that I saw.
I find the debate over whether the Ramcharger is a PHEV or EV to be pretty funny. It's a PHEV by all commonly accepted definitions of a PHEV, including that of the US Department of Energy and the EPA.
Ram calling it an EV doesn't make it any more of one than did the dude in my old neighborhood...
From what I've read, the ICE will also deliver power directly to the EV motors when they need more than what they can get straight from the batteries.
The use case scenarios I've seen for that in a few articles is when towing a heavy load in harsh conditions, but everything I've seen has all...
After doing more reading on the Ramcharger, I've got two outstanding technical-ish questions that I guess we'll need to wait till next summer or so to get the answers to:
Will it have a heat pump or standard HVAC?
Does the ICE generator kick on under normal (non-heavy load) driving conditions...
Since we keep rehashing the same discussion about pricing, I'll reiterate what we do know as my last post on the topic:
The battery pack costs somewhere in the vicinity of $9k to manufacture, given the current industry price of approximately $100/kWh.
Presuming the EV motors are approximately...
My guess is that this will be a minimum of a $15k upcharge over the equivalent 3.6 trim. Just in terms of cost to manufacture, the battery is about $9k and the motors are likely $2-3k apiece, plus however much the generator and other assorted electrical components cost.
Take away the...
I think the sales slump is due to a confluence of factors:
Oldest truck on the lot--Ford and GM both came out with their current gen trucks after Ram did in 2018, yet both have already had a MCR while Ram has stayed steady with just minor YoY updates
Smallest and least efficient engine...
I've read approximately 25 different articles on the Ramcharger and one of 'em stated exactly that. No clue which particular article it was, but it stated that there is a built in buffer (30%?) and the ICE will maintain that buffer under load conditions. I believe that article also stated the...
And on top of that, the 20mpg in ICE mode is likely substantially better than what an equivalent Pentastar model would get.
As you can see in my sig, my truck was a porker (~5800lb curb weight pre-tonneau cover) and got under 18mpg lifetime hand calced with a light foot over a roughly 60/40 mix...
I don't see any way this will be cheaper than the Hemi. Throw in a ~$9k battery pack plus however much the EV motors cost (my WAG based on :30 of googling is ~$2500-3000 per motor, or about what the upcharge is for the Hemi), plus the generator, plus miscellaneous electrical expenses, and you're...
I was considering the REV up until the Ramcharger was unveiled.
The REV would fit my use case and I could make it work with little in the way of modifications to any of my routines. The one potentially iffy area was charger availability along my normal road trip routes--looking at ABRP, charger...
My guess is there's some regulation around what separates a PHEV from an EV in terms of Uncle Sam, and that separating line is whether the ICE propels the vehicle or only charges the battery.
I vaguely recall there being a hullabaloo back in 2010 or so when it was discovered that the Chevy...
I vaguely recall someone running the numbers a few years ago on another forum when there were first rumors of Ram coming out with a range extender.
If memory serves, it was something in the 120-150hp range needed to keep a battery at a steady state of charge under maximum half ton load...
Given that both the Rev and Rev XR are both supposed to come out next year, and we saw the Rev unveiled 6+ months ago but haven't heard a peep about the XR, I wonder what the holdup is for the XR.
I know I'm breaking an unwritten rule here, but in my opinion you can't really go wrong with any of the half tons.
From a functional standpoint, they all more or less do truck stuff equally well. Sure there's some differences in payload here and some differences in towing capacity there, but...
Is this why we haven't heard anything about the XR, because it doesn't exist yet? 🤔

I bought out my lease in 2021. I did it all online on the Chrysler Capital website, didn't involve the dealer I purchased from or the dealership I had it serviced it at.
ETA: I generated the buyout quote on the CC website, sent that payment in, then I believe a couple weeks later I had the...
