Gravel roads vs XL or E rated tires

Aren't we in the off-road forum? I had heard of airing down. Over the last few months, I've received quite an education. Net: the load rating is not just a load but includes other parameters such as speed. The Toyo chart, available as a complete booklet, will give the load capacity vs. pressure...

BDS 4” kit for 2019 air ride models now available

It is a very interesting kit. The instructions indicate no welding. It has an extended upright in front and requires zero-offset wheel. BDS has kits for the 2500 with air suspension also. Interestingly, they have 2500 kits that replace the single leading arm with a 4-bar linkage like the rear...

    Fuel 20x9+1 Wildpeak 285/65/r20

The wheels do look good, both styling and integration of the bronze and black. What offset are they? I believe they come in +20 and +1, the second moving the wheel 3/4" outboard.

Payload discrepancy between door jamb sticker and RAM web site

In NJ I believe the registration fees are by vehicle weight. In PA they seem to be either GVWR or GCWR depending on whether is a tractor-trailer. It is over a $200 difference between GVWR and GCWR in PA on a 3500 SRW. And another $200+ between curb weight and GVWR. In Texas it is GVWR but the...

Payload discrepancy between door jamb sticker and RAM web site

Not hard to figure out. The 2500 with some minimal options weighs about 7500 with the Cummins. It varies depending on the model. Subtract that from 10,000 and you have the payload. I believe a Mega cab 4x4 has the lowest payload (2380#) and a regular cab short box has the highest (3200#) The...

Please post your Tire and Loading sticker

"Heavy towing"? There is a spectrum. On an 18-wheeler the steering axle is limited to 12k lb, each of the others to 17k. 80k lb max. Roads have a 102" limit has some people putting wide rims on their duallies have found out. Interstates have a 13'6" height. The Ram 3500 dually with the Cummins...

Please post your Tire and Loading sticker

A weight distributing hitch will reduce the tongue weight by 10%-20%. The 10% tongue weight number is pretty arbitrary. In Europe, it is 4% to 7%. One WD hitch manufacturer told me in a phone call that they recommend 4.5%-5.5% after adjustment. That catch is many trailers have the tongue weight...

Any options out for rock rails/sliders yet?

Yes, but that is on the high side for rock sliders. This one's unique feature is the unique, electrically extending step. I'm not sure that step is worth the extra $1000 or so over a typical Jeep rock slider.

4 corner air suspension and towing

The instructions are on page 383-384. I'm not sure I totally agree with them. Front fender height is frequently used as WD Hitch guideline, but is masked by self-leveling. FCA 'recommends' a WD hitch above 5000lb. Most say require although it is common for HD pickups to tow heavy loads without...

Any options out for rock rails/sliders yet?

Those are $2200 + another $250 for a skid plate for the slider.

Any options out for rock rails/sliders yet?

These folks would probably be happy to make a set: https://white-knuckleoffroad.com/product/ram-1500-gas-diesel-2014-2018-rock-sliders/

4 corner air suspension and towing

Raising and lowering the truck will change the tension on the WD bars. Also note, the WD bar will transfer 1%-2% of the net tongue weight to the trailer axle. Adjusting tongue weight may be problematic with some trailers. Also not many/most hitches and receivers specify a max tongue weight...

    3.21 towing with 35” tires

The transmission has a 4.71 first gear. A 35"/3.21 is the same as a 32"/2.93 or 33"/3.02. Those are still massive ratios coupled with that first gear. About what the old 6-speed would have been with a 4.10 gear.

    Soft Offroading with Laramie 4x4

You do have the ORG, so stock with an asterisk. Do you have the air suspension? Questions: did you air down your tires? How did you know the creek was 20" and not 36"? Did you use 4Lo or Hill Descent at any point? Are you now looking for rocker sliders? However, I've seen videos of a fair...

    Soft Offroading with Laramie 4x4

I was hoping the brake caliper clearance issue was solved. The tires raised the truck 1". I think they fit the spare tire carrier, and with the ORG (raised 1") would have the same clearance as the OE 32" tire. They also have huge load capacity, 7" sidewalls (same as OE 32") tires and with their...

11,000lb camper towing with 2019 big horn

It might be possible, but probably not. The axle ratio is out there in the specs, but really makes no sense. The 8-speed transmission has a 4.71 first gear, so having enough torque to get moving should never be an issue. I'm not sure what prompted FCA to make such a big distinction based on axle...

    Soft Offroading with Laramie 4x4

Are those Method Racing Wheels 308 wheels? 18x9+0? Aren't there front brake clearance issues? Are the tires the 34.3" Wildpeak A/T3W LT295/70-18? Nothing is a problem until it is. These trucks have long wheelbases, insufficient breakover crushes rockers. Insufficient angle of approach does...

Payload discrepancy between door jamb sticker and RAM web site

You got the Cummins diesel. 10k lb is the limit for Class 2b, and the target of 3/4 ton pickups. For most brands, other than a DRW option on the 1-ton, the difference is nothing more than spring rates. On the Ram, it is entirely different rear suspension (but same axles). The result for Ram...
