Go to a dealer and drive two trucks, one with and one without. I was also wondering whether I should get it or not. After driving both, I decided I preferred the feel of the conventional suspension.
I respectfully disagree with this. Tire mass is only relevant when accelerating. Once the tires are rotating at a steady speed, their mass is no longer a factor. A body in motion tends to remain in motion, and it doesn't matter if that motion is linear or rotational. What causes the...
In "City" or "Combined" driving, yes, very much so. But at a steady speed on the highway, the effects of extra mass become close to negligible, and aerodynamic drag becomes the biggest factor. Yes, an air suspension might add a few pounds (but it's not a lot), and if it can put the truck in...
Regens involve the DPF, which is ahead of the whole DEF/SCR system.
A clogged DEF injector nozzle can produce SCR-related fault codes, but it won't produce exhaust back pressure.
If Peak wants to sell me a "premium" DEF with a "proprietary additive package", they need to show some actual...
PS: Performance issues in a modern diesel that don't involve the ECU throwing fault codes are most likely due to the intake becoming restricted with soot from the EGR, not from a clogged SCR cat.
I think you're confusing the DPF with the SCR cat. The DEF injector is behind the DPF but in front of the SCR cat. So DEF can't possibly cause deposits in the DPF, but it could conceivably do so in the SCR cat itself.
Now DEF has historically been nothing but purified water and urea...
Hah! They put you through the wringer, making you confirm name, address, e-mail, and telephone number on order. Then after some wait time:
I guess I don't need to worry that my truck will get to my dealer back in PA before I get back there.
Salesman got back to me and gave me a proper, 17-digit VIN that appears to be valid (passes the checksum test).
Now I just need to figure out what to do with it.
Gonna join the party here.
Ordered 8/24. Haven't heard a thing from my dealer in the meanwhile, so I e-mailed my salesman, "Just checking in to make sure there are no problems with my order and wondering if a VIN had been assigned yet?"
Answer: "Yes," followed by a string of 16 digits...
Having driven diesels for the last 11 years, I've paid pretty close attention to that. My experience is: The further into the boonies you get, the more likely it is that a randomly selected filling station will have diesel. Right now I'm at my cabin in the Blue Ridge mountains SW VA. For...
Nice! 3.21 gears, 2WD, and air suspension would seem to be the trifecta for fuel economy. 2WD alone should be good for at least 1-2 MPG better than the 4x4 drive-train that most of us opt for. I wonder how much the air suspension brings to the table at highway speeds?
Better fuel economy regardless how they're run? Sure. A diesel engine is intrinsically more efficient due its higher compression ratio. This is aided and abetted by the fact that diesel fuel has a higher energy content per gallon than gasoline does.
But the other pain the you've neglected to...
It probably doesn't make economic sense, and I certainly wouldn't buy one for commuting. But for 1200 mile highway trips: There's a lot of peace of mind knowing you have 700 or more miles worth of fuel in the tank, especially when there's a hurricane bearing down on your beach house in TX...
I'm not sure I see much point in this. Android Auto's biggest use to me is to have the always up-to-date and fully traffic-aware Google Nav running on the vehicle's screen. But doing that is quite CPU intensive in the phone and will drain its battery rather quickly, meaning I really want to...
I can't imagine ACC becoming a required feature, but Autonomous Emergency Braking is becoming mandatory in some markets, and all the major players in the US market have agreed to make it a standard feature without a mandate here by 2022.
