I installed rear auxiliary lights exactly like Blacksheep wants. Instead of a separate wire and switch to power them I used an Aux Switch power lead.
There is no need to add relays, etc. for basic LED pods and there is no back feeding
At rear bumper I:

Where I typed Connect below you need to connect to the control unit. It looks like you missed doing that.

I have tried Vairs that connect directly to the battery and they could only air up to 57 PSI. I then bought a Dewalt 20V Max Tire Inflator (DCC020IB). It's the best of the 6 or so devices I have owned. It's the first one to easily reach 80 PSI and the battery lasts for a long time.

It's operating properly. The brake controller only applies power to the trailer's brakes, none to the brake light circuit. You should adjust the controller so that you only have to use the truck's brake pedal.
