I know thats what the procedure states, just figured out a shortcut that works for me in my situation. Not everyone will have the right angles/driveways/ramps/etc. to do my shortcut, and I'm not necessarily saying "my way is best" or anything like that, just that its what I do from now on. Your mileage may vary and all that. The transmission manufacturer ZF states to level the transmission in the refilling procedure.

I like your way of doing it, thank you for posting. I just wanted to point out the instructions from ZF...I know there is a lot of ambiguity whether the truck or tranny need to be level. I will definitely consider using your approach when it's time to do the next change. Did not like jacking up rear of truck to perform this fluid change as it required a ridiculously high rear end raise to get the tranny pan level. Using your method, as long as you put back the same volume that drained out, should be good to go pending the factory fill was good. No burned hand while rushing to get the plug in before temp goes over 120 F.I know thats what the procedure states, just figured out a shortcut that works for me in my situation. When in doubt, definitely do it the by-the-book if thats what makes you the most comfortable.
