Curious to see your dashcams. I had a FitcamX and hated it

I saw a guy on YouTube mounted his rear camera right inside the door handle off the tailgate. It looked great.

I watched that video. Nice clean install.

Thinkware F200 pro front and rear cams. Good brand, good clarity. Easy clean hardwire install.

I've been using the FitCamx for awhile on my Ram and a 2018 Challenger TA - I think they work well and the installs both retained OEM appearance up front. I did the plug and play installs within each vehicle's rear-view mirror. The OS was only a little finicky to set up but once done, hasn't been problematic to actually use. I did upgrade the memory cards to 256mb for good measure though.

Adding a camera to the front either behind the grill or above the bumper and you have to run the wires into the cab someplace. I'm open to suggestions if there is a better way to go. Same thing if I mount the rear camera above the license plate. I need to run the wires into the cab somehow. I saw a video where the guy ran the rear camera wires underneath along the frame with existing wires, under the cab up into the engine compartment and through the firewall with the front camera wires using an existing passage. It did require some modifications to the seal at the point of entry.

In addition I am hesitant to modify any wiring given the known flakiness of the electronics. Instead I opted for the wiring harness that plugs into the ODB2 port. We'll see how that works and if there are issues I will have to get the other wiring harness and tap into the fuse box under the dash.
Just be careful with powering from the OBD plug. I’ve heard of more issues powering that way vs. just connecting to the fuse box or the 12 volt power plug. If you do use OBD power, check how many pins the plug has. If it has more than 3, then it’s contacting other pins not needed for power/ground and you’re more likely to have issues. Safe Drive Solutions has a nice video explaining this.

have the viofo a229 dual cam system on my M3, it's okay. it does get in the way if you want to utilize high quality sunshade like covercraft, since covercraft is made to match your windshield. not that big of a deal for that particular car because I also have a radar detector high mounted on the windshield, and that got in the way more than the viofo.

have the fitcamx on the truck, routed the rear cam to the back of tailgate area inside the camper using extension cables. never gave me an issue. yes the app utilizes wifi signal so it can be a hassle to connect when the truck is on and you're using wireless carplay, but like many things i got used to it and it worked fine. i'm a part time IT full time truck installer/ outfitter, so maybe that's why I'm ok with it - my IT skills are not on your level LOL. BUT if you use a covercraft sunshade it will NOT get in the way and no one will know you have a dash cam.

have installed plenty of those wolfbox units. They are awesome, but positioning is important. Running wires is fine, but just remember the more wires you have to run (power/ rear cam/ front cam - if you go with the 3 cam system) there are more wires to hide in the headliner, which can make hiding it a pain (more wires = more space needed)

stay away from ventrue that uses mini usb b type of connection. those cables are BULKY and are royal pain in the rear to run. can cause folding marks or damages to the head unit - i've seen people done that.
100% correct with wifi issue, I have a 2020 Ram 1500 Bighorn & have the Fitcamx. I wanted to run my iphone through wireless carplay so i didn't have to plug in all the time & ran into the issue with trying to use the camera which uses wifi & wireless plug-in car play at the same time. I realized it was one or the other Fitcamx would not work with wireless carplay at the same time. So i gave up on going wireless carplay although wireless carplay would be convent i had zero issues with fitcamx camera features & hidden cables so i'll have plug in for now, it sucks having cords but that's really the only cord i have plugged in my truck. Trade off for now.

yeap that's just how Apple configure things... i don't understand why but it is what it is.
if I really want to (which is... never) I could just connect my ipad mini to the fitcamx and use it while phone's connected to wireless carplay. but then i never had issue switching network to access fitcam when i get to destination so i never bothered with it lol

I received the order and the first thing I did was crack open the ODB wiring harness. The Wolfbox cable is using 2 pins, pin4 chassis ground and pin 16 12v supply. This should be safe as far as not interfering with any of the networks and computers in the vehicle.

Started the Wolfbox install only to end in disappointment due to my own stupidity.

Plugged unit in with all the cameras and GPS plugged in. Verified that everything was working.

Removed A pillar covering and ran wires over to A pillar and from there. GPS unit was placed on corner of dash. Power down and under dash. Rear camera under headliner along doors to the rear. After lots of though and deliberation I decided to install the rear camera on the back window. I might revisit this and relocate to the rear bumper area in the future however I really didn't see any way to mount the camera back there that was acceptable to me. Considered mounting above 3rd brake light and running wires under gasket and in through the 3rd brake light however I was concerned about leaks.

Spent a long time looking at the front end and under the hood to decide how and where I wanted to mount the front camera. Decided on a tentative location for the camera and a route for the wires however decided that I didn't have enough time to do it today and I also wanted to do additional research on routing through the firewall.

So far everything good. Kicked the unit over and everything still working after running the wires. Got everything programmed and discovered park mode was not available. Further research shows park mode not available when ODB port as a power source. Suddenly realized the power would be on all the time and unless I wanted to power on/off at every usage it was not what I wanted. So kicking myself in the rear because I should have realized that ahead of time.

Quick search on Amazon showed the G900TriPro takes a specific hardwire kit not available on Amazon. Was hoping I could get one for tomorrow. No such luck so I ordered one from Wolfbox direct and will wait for it to arrive.

Give me the Bonehead of the week award. I should have known better.

In the mean time any suggestions on which fuses to tap into for constant and switched power. Here are my initial thoughts. This is without looking at fuse box and just looking at fuse listing on owner's manual.

2026

Constant: F54A - 20A Yellow Micro Fuse - Power Outlet Center Seat - Battery Feed
Switched: F62A - 10A Red Micro Fuse - Assy Mirror Inside RR View / Port Power or USB IP USB Charge Only / USB Port RR Armrest

Check the settings on the camera. It may offer a setting that monitors the voltage and shuts off the camera if it detects the battery reaches a certain level.

The WolfBox G900TriPro doesn't seem to have a voltage monitoring setup for general use. When you are parking mode it will monitor the voltage and shutdown when voltage drops below 12V however parking mode is not available as currently wired. I'll just wait for the harness to arrive and put it in. Running it will be a 10 minute job or less. The only part that will be interesting is tapping into the fuse.
