Did Quaker State stop making its MS-12991-approved oil?

I have used the QS Euro spec 5w-40 on two different ecodiesels for a couple of years now, as it was the cheapest (by far) MS12991 approved oil, and I could get it at my local Wally World. I just went to re-order and it is gone. Not in stock in wal-marts system anywhere, not even listed on Amazon, and not anywhere else. Am I stuck in some weird variation of groundhog day??

It's a low quality oil and you should stop using it. Oil analysis on it consistently shows high wear numbers.

Can you point me toward some published tests showing that?

On the ram 1500 diesel forum, there are a lot of UOAs that show higher wear metals with Shell oil. It's entirely possible the high wear is not oil related, but there are certainly better oils for the 3d Gen ecodiesel. Another issue is the MS-12991 oils are typically high ash, which will eventually shorten the life of your DPF. If you're certain you want to use the "recommended" spec, you can look at Castrol Edge Euro. It has the MS standard and can be found at Walmart. QS Euro can still be ordered, just going to have a hard time finding it in the stores.
