Read this article, and it just got me wondering about how much privacy we have when traveling in out private vehicle.

Eh, it's Ram, given their track record with software and electronics I'm sure whatever it's tracking in my truck is being mistakenly routed to the inbox of some plumber in Fiji. They can have it.

Pretty such this happens in so many ways in our lives, with our cell phones, blue tooth devices, cars, etc.

But I salute this person for taking this stand, maybe more will follow, hopefully if it hurts enough financially for companies it may cause them to adjust or some laws to get created to curb this.

Guaranteed it's buried in the TOS somewhere for the car and/or system Toyota uses that they can collect and use the data how they see fit.

There is no such thing as privacy anymore if you have a phone, TV, computer, truck/car or internet access. Sad and disgusting fact of modern life. Why is it that 98% of us can have our integrity questioned because some people don't have any at all. I realize that the tech can be helpful if it proves your innocence if you get caught up in something not of your doing. It just seems the whole premise is getting out of balance these days.

im sure my truck listens but all it hears are some right wing podcasts like Daily Wire, which I don't really care if that info end up somewhere.
i also fly DJI drone (Mini 4 Pro) and use DJI Action 4 and DJI Pocket 3, along with DJI Mic and Receiver. i already accept that president xi comes along with my adventure and I don't really care if the stuff I say or film end up on the desk of some MSS agent, because I know with the amount of crap I say about China I'm probably on a list somewhere there.

and if ya think truck listens is a big issue... well your phone/ PC/ Mac/ tablet listens and monitors as well. I'm getting ads from C4 Fab, Prinus, Westcott (junk), and others on my social media apps on my phone because I use the shop computer to look those up to show customers...

not entirely worried because my entire online identity is fake lol i know if someone really go look for it they'll find me, but if they gonna go through the processes... well, nothing i can do.

I talked to GPT at length about this. It is going to be the norm in 15-20 years. No insurance allowed without eye tracking, AI monitored speech/noise in the vehicle, what time of day/night you drive, how many miles you drive, virtually every aspect of road behavior. Welcome to the world of rolling battery powered smart phones.

I am seriously considering finding a couple pre 2010 vehicles to put into longterm storage.

FCA data collection and opt-out:

Note opting out may disable maps, OTA updates, and more. I use iPhone for maps so Apple gets the info and presumably TomTom also as I think that is where Apple gets maps and traffic info (I think TomTom is the built-in maps on the vehicle).

My insurance does not use collected data to set rates, it does use credit score, address, claims and ticket history, and some other things.

I get a discount on gas with a shoppers card, so the grocery store knows what I eat.

tl;dr: We already leak so much data, not sure the vehicle makes much difference.
