2026 Ram 1500 REV Limited Caught Testing Ahead of Launch

Electric Power Meets Real Truck Capability

We are getting closer and closer to the official launch of the 2026 Ram 1500 REV, and real-world testing is clearly ramping up. Thanks to MoparInsiders reader and longtime supporter Alex Givens, we now have a fresh look at a Ram 1500 REV Limited prototype that was spotted sitting quietly in a public park during validation testing. While it blended in at a glance, this truck represents one of the most important launches in Ram’s modern history.

I wish they would release some news on this thing. It is exactly what I am looking for for my camping setup. No gas around town, plenty of towing distance, can power my camper on my property over the summer and i need a couple more hundred payload lbs. I don't want to go with a 3/4 ton as it wont fit in my garage and would rather not have hail damage every year.

Same here, the proposed Ramcharger (now REV) fits my use-case perfectly. I signed up for the original REV and the original Ramcharger "early adopters" place-keeper at Ram, but I've never heard a peep from Ram after signing up.
.
At this point, given that Ram has been totally silent on the "REV" extended-range-EV, canceling the full battery-electric truck, canceling all Jeep 4xE and Pacifica plug-in hybrids, and with the continuing big changes the White House is making with respect to exhaust emissions and fuel economy regulations, I won't be surprised if Ram cancels the "REV" extended-range EV truck, too. I have not heard anything about them canceling it, I'm just saying that with the rapidly-falling-out-of-favor EV market, I wouldn't be surprised if they end up dropping the EREV truck.
.
I hope Ram pushes through whatever issues they're having and actually comes to market with the EREV truck - it has so much value for a certain segment of the market.

I read in one article that they are cancelling EV and PHEV programs to concentrate more on developing range extended EV's like this. So I'd be surprised if they cancelled it.

I hope you're right. I also hope Ram is taking its sweet time in order to make the REV EREV a high-quality launch and a reliable product. A lot of people love their Jeep 4xE vehicles, but frankly, the 4xEs have had a lot of recalls, some for fire hazards, and they've also been beset with user complaints for general poor reliability/quality. Given how far Ram's sales have fallen in the past two years, they really need to demonstrate top-notch execution on the REV EREV truck, not rushing it out the door to create market buzz.

My daughter has a love/hate relationship with her 4xE Wrangler. She loves it when they're able to use it but hate how often it's been in the shop in the 2+ years they've owned it.

I don't think they are going to cancel it, from the "Butter da Insider" youtube site, he had some production start dates and said it would start production around June. So they are going to miss another camping season for me unfortunately. Also with Ford announcing their "REV" and the Scout coming soon as well, it seems like this will be the sweet spot. I just feel like, without the artificial delays (wanted to relaunch the Hemi instead), they could have cornered the market on this segment as they would have had a few years as the only one and had an immediate answer to Ford and Scout when theirs were released.

I would have ordered the first one, without a test drive if I could have gotten it late spring. Now I will just wait until next spring and will be able to test drive one first I suppose. I can use my current 2020 Limited over the winter and save more $$ to put towards the new one. What I really want to know is what the payload is going to be on a Tungsten model. If they would release that kind of information instead of the "up to xxxx payload" BS. I would like to know if getting this will resolve my biggest issue of payload (my current Limited has around 1k and I would like at least 500 more without giving up all the extras. I can currently tow my 32' camper, but cant with full water tanks so I can take it up to my property (no connections) and use it over the weekend

You should be able to tell by looking at the current DT 1500's max advertised payload compared to your Limited, and whatever that difference is, subtract it from the stated max payload of the REV. The weight added (and payload subtracted) will be very close on the REV as it is for current DT 1500s, because it's the same gear they will be adding to REV as they add to DT trucks.

From the article: "Ram is making it clear that the REV isn’t giving up truck capability."
Well, then I hope they offer options for a Multi-Function tailgate, a 6-foot bed and no Ramboxes(to maximize possible bed space).

This interview of Tim Kuniskis by Andre Smirnov of TFL Truck talks about the EREV in two places:

It's a good interview, worth watching the whole thing, but if you just want to know what Tim Kuniskis says about electrification, those two spots are it.

Yeah, I'm really hoping the EREV truck will have MFT (multi-function tailgate) as an option. But in case not, I'm prepared to buy the Ram EREV in the same color as my current 2020 truck with MFT and swap out the tailgates before I sell the 2020. I know a Ram dealership mechanic, before I do the swap (if it's even necessary) I'll ask him if a non-MFT truck can accept and MFT and have the MFT still function as intended (i.e. electrical architecture issues).

It requires a different bed, there are supports on the other end of the bed that are unique to the MFT and the way it attaches requires more than just swapping the tailgate. I hope they are able to retain the MFT as well, but it wont be a deal breaker for me.

I did that and the difference is 265lbs, (website shows 2360 max for a DT and 2625 max for the Rev) but I am not sure if there will be an opportunity to get an Rev optioned out like a regular DT optioned for max payload. For example, if you can only get a REV as a Limited or higher trim, then the difference would be around 1500 lbs. 2625-1050 (my current 2020 Limited with everything) is much higher.

I watched it earlier today, it is unfortunate that the release date is TBD according to Kuniskis, I know he is trying to push a bunch of stuff out over the next few months, but this is really the only truck I am interested in lol. Today's TFL Truck video had a guy saying there are currently about 200 Revs out in the wild driving around currently and he saw one driving to the Detroit Autoshow. There is also one there they look at, nothing special in it though, they dont really get into much other than what we already know.

From what I've read the MFT will NOT be available on the 1500 REV. In looking at the tailgate it's clear that a swap would be challenging since the tail lights wrap around into the tailgate. And any donor tailgate would have to come from a non REV 1500.

This is from the Ramtrucks website. Which is a little confusing since the pics I've seen are of a Limited trim level REV.

In the case of Ram Box, which I would also definitely order., I don't think the separate brackets are necessary. I believe the mods inherent to the Ram Box's bed structure obviates the need for the brackets like a regular bed requires with MFT.

You might be right, but I don't care about the portions of the tail lights that wrap into the tailgate. If the structure is the same, which I'm pretty sure it is, and the new electrical architecture is designed for the same sensors & latches as are in the original MFT, I'm thinking there is a possibility it will work. Of course I realize it might not work, but for me losing the MFT is a deal-breaker - I would just keep my 2020 Laramie Longhorn EcoDiesel and buy a standalone generator for the house. I'd definitely prefer the EREV truck, but at my age and with my lower-back & knee issues, I can't live without the MFT.

Can you provide the link to the TFL video you're referring to? Thanks!

You are correct. The brackets are not necessary on the Rambox bed.
