2019 Ram 1500. I’ve noticed this rattle sound when I’m accelerating quickly at high rpm. Sounds like a metal clanking rattle sound from maybe underneath? Any ideas? That wouldn’t be a cam/lifter issue sound right?

Wasn't able to hear it, but wouldn't be surprised if it was pinging. Try some higher octane or different brand of gas

Yeah it’s a bit tonight to hear you might have to put the phone up to your ear. It’s at the top end of the RPM. It’s more of a clanking rattle sound…

I can hear it, my 21 does the same and I’m thinking because of the fuel. I’m currently at about 1/4 tank and will be topping off with 93 today to see if that solves it.

Just filled up with 93 from speedway, did one 20-50mph pull and it did not ping at all. Will update as I go…

That’s interesting thanks for the info. I’ll try that when my tank gets low and see if that’s it. If it doesn’t then my other though could maybe be a loose heat shield flapping?

My sound was identical to yours, I don’t think it’s a heat shield. Next time I go out I’ll jump on it again and see what it does.

Went out for a quick spin, went 50,75,100% throttle and I didn’t hear anything. In the past it’s been pretty consistent under load.

That’s really interesting thanks. I’ll try that when I refill this weekend.

LIke the others, I couldn't hear it, and I vote with them on fuel. If I use 87 octane and stand on it, the engine sounds like someones shaking a can full of coins or marbles. It's much easier to hear with the windows down and accelerating next to something that will bounce the soundwaves back to me, another truck, a big retainer wall, something like that. With 89 octane it goes away.

I have a VERY similar sounding noise at low rpm with especially when mds is active. does it only make this noise at high rpm high load?

Mine makes the same pinging on acceleration with low grade fuel. I have to run 91 in California if I don't want to hear it. Shouldn't be harmful in the long run, as long as the knock sensors are functioning properly. I've experienced the same pinging in previous gm pickups (2011 and 2020). Modern vehicles are constantly advancing timing until they experience spark knock, and then they retard to prevent damage. That is one of the reasons modern engines are able to run such high compression, along with cylinder head/piston materials, camshaft duration/lsa, combustion chamber size/quench..... etc etc.... I like engines. It's a problem.
